Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between cat grass and catnip? Cat grass (Cyperus) is a grass that cats eat to help their digestion. Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a plant whose scent triggers a euphoric reaction in some cats — they roll on it and play with it. These are two different plants with very distinct effects.
Does Cyperus cat grass regrow after my cat eats it? Yes, Cyperus Alternifolius regularly regrows after being nibbled. Cut back any stems that are too short or yellow at the base to encourage the growth of new, strong shoots. With regular watering and good light, the plant continuously renews itself.

🌿 Natural cat grass • 🐱 Non-toxic and loved by cats • ☀️ Bright light • 💧 Regular watering • 📏 H20 cm | Pot Ø12 cm • 🎁 Ideal gift for cat owners
Cyperus Alternifolius, or cat grass, is a tropical grass plant with long, slender, flexible stems that cats love to nibble. Its fine, slightly curly blades make it a graphic and decorative plant — for humans and felines alike. Delivered in its kitten-illustrated pot.
Completely non-toxic, fast-growing, and easy to care for. A reliable choice among pet-friendly plants.
Cyperus Alternifolius or Cyperus Zumula?
Two varieties of Cyperus cat grass are available in our catalog:
- Cyperus Alternifolius (this plant) — slender, flexible, slightly curly stems, an airy and bushy shape, D12 x H20 cm. The more decorative option.
- Cyperus Zumula — shorter, denser stems, and a slightly larger size, D12 x H23 cm. The more compact option.
Both are non-toxic and loved by cats — the choice depends on the size and decorative style you prefer.
Light & placement
- Ideal light: bright indirect light — near a window, ideally facing south or east.
- Avoid: excessive shade, which slows growth and thins the foliage.
- Temperature: 15–25 °C.
- Placement: accessible to your cat — on the floor or on a low piece of furniture.
The brighter the light, the faster the growth and the stronger the blades — a well-lit spot regularly renews the foliage.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular — keep the substrate slightly moist at all times.
- Frequency: at least once a week, more often if the substrate dries quickly.
- Drainage: a pot with drainage holes is recommended — avoid standing water in the saucer.
- Fertilizer: diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants, once a month in spring and summer.
- Pruning: cut overly long or yellowing blades at the base to encourage regrowth.
Never let the substrate dry out completely — the blades turn yellow quickly in response to water stress. This is its only point to watch. The watering frequency should be adjusted according to the season.
Decorating ideas
Cyperus Alternifolius is both functional AND decorative — its curly stems create an airy, graphic shape that brings lightness to a plant arrangement.
- In a floor pot: placed somewhere accessible to your cat, it creates a natural, permanent cat grass corner — much more durable than a disposable growing kit.
- As a gift: its kitten-illustrated pot makes it an ideal gift for cat owners. A lovely idea among plant gifts.
- In an arrangement: pair it with other pet-friendly plants for a completely safe plant corner for your pets.
Its blades regularly grow back after your cat has nibbled them — a plant that naturally renews itself over your feline's visits.
Verdeia tips
- Cat grass aids digestion — cats instinctively nibble the blades to support digestion and help eliminate hairballs. A plant that is as useful as it is decorative.
- Cut yellow blades at the base — this encourages the growth of new, vigorous blades. Regular pruning keeps the plant dense and full.
- Water regularly — never let the substrate dry out completely. Regular watering is the only real requirement of this plant.
- 🐾 100% non-toxic — Cyperus is completely safe for cats and dogs. In a pet-friendly home, more ideas can be found among these compatible plants and pets.
