Frequently Asked Questions
How do you propagate ivy cuttings in water? Cut a 10 to 15 cm stem just below a node, remove the lower leaves, and place it in a glass of water — roots will appear in 2 to 3 weeks.
Trailing or climbing ivy — how to choose the growth habit? When hanging or on a high shelf, let the stems hang freely for a cascading effect — attached to a trellis or stake, they naturally climb for a more structured look.

🌿 Dense, dark green evergreen foliage • 🪴 Graceful trailing habit • 🌑 Tolerates partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 🌱 Hardy and easy • 📏 Ø17 or Ø24 cm | H45 cm
Hedera helix 'Pittsburgh', or trailing indoor ivy, is an iconic plant native to Europe and Asia. Its dense, evergreen foliage forms long, flexible stems that trail gracefully — a structural, hardy, and versatile plant that easily adapts to urban environments and tolerates partial shade better than most trailing plants.
Available in 2 sizes (Ø17 cm and Ø24 cm). Discover it in our trailing plants collection and in our selection of climbing and trailing plants.
Which Ivy Variety to Choose?
The Hedera genus offers several varieties in our catalog:
- Hedera helix 'Pittsburgh' (this plant) — dense dark green foliage, classic trailing habit. The timeless version.
- Hedera helix Wonder Green — slightly different shiny green foliage, dense habit. The compact version.
- Hedera helix Goldheart — variegated green and golden yellow foliage, very graphic. The bright variegated version.
- Hedera algeriensis Gloria de Marengo — large cream and green variegated leaves. The large variegated leaf version.
- Hedera colchica Dentata Variegata — very large variegated leaves, vigorous habit. The XXL variegated version.
Light & Location
'Pittsburgh' ivy is one of the few trailing plants that truly tolerate partial shade — a valuable asset for low-light rooms.
- Light: partial shade or indirect light — tolerates shadier corners.
- Ideal: hanging near a window, on a high shelf, or in a planter.
- Temperature: 15 to 25 °C, no cold drafts — even appreciates cooler rooms.
- Humidity: normal to slightly humid.
Let its stems trail freely for a natural cascading effect, or train them on a support for a more structured, climbing look.
Watering & Care
Ivy is hardy and tolerant — it forgives irregular watering and clearly signals its needs. Check our watering guide to find the right rhythm.
- Watering: moderate — keep the substrate slightly moist without excess.
- Substrate: well-aerated — universal potting soil with perlite.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring-summer with a balanced fertilizer.
- Pruning: light pruning as needed to encourage branching and maintain a dense shape.
Mist the foliage lightly during hot periods to prevent dry edges — ivy appreciates moderate ambient humidity, especially in summer with heating or air conditioning.
Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations
Its flexible, trailing habit makes it a structural plant in a plant arrangement — it creates movement and depth where upright plants would create rigidity.
- In combination: pair it with a Golden Pothos or a Philodendron scandens for a hanging composition with contrasting trailing foliage — same needs, different effects.
- Ideal pot: ceramic hanging pot or decorative pot in natural fiber — natural materials match the classic, timeless character of ivy.
- Location: hanging from the ceiling or placed on a high shelf, it instantly creates a soft, green atmosphere even in the darkest corners.
Verdeia Tips
- Clean the leaves regularly — ivy easily collects dust on its dense foliage. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth every 2 to 3 weeks to promote photosynthesis and maintain the dark green shine of the foliage.
- Prune to thicken — light pruning in spring on the longest stems encourages branching and results in a denser, bushier habit. Cuttings from pruning root very easily in water.
- Slightly toxic if ingested — ivy is slightly toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. Keep it out of reach of pets and children.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
