Frequently Asked Questions
How long do air plants live? Several years under good conditions. After the single flowering, the mother plant gradually declines but produces offsets called keikis that continue the colony. Detach them when they reach one-third the size of the mother plant.
Why is my Tillandsia turning brown? Isolated brown tips indicate air that is too dry — double the misting frequency. Widespread browning at the center of the rosette indicates rot from stagnant water — dry the plant upside down for 24 hours and make sure to shake it well after each soak.

🌿 Set of 5 air plants • 🎨 Mix of graphic varieties • ☀️ Bright interior • 💧 Regular misting • 🌱 Soil and pot free • 🐾 Non-toxic
The Tillandsia Air mix is a set of 5 epiphytic air plants native to the tropical and subtropical forests of Central and South America, where they naturally grow attached to tree branches without ever touching the ground. These extraordinary plants absorb water and nutrients directly through their leaves — no soil, no pot, no constraints. Each set contains a mix of varieties including Ionanta, Argentea, Gardneri, and Oaxacana, all Ø6 cm.
Non-toxic, low maintenance, endlessly creative for decor. Discover in our collection of original plants and in our selection for terrariums.
How much to choose?
The Tillandsia Air mix is available in several sizes depending on your project:
- Set of 5 (this product) — ideal discovery size to start or create a first arrangement. 5 different varieties, each Ø6 cm.
- Set of 10 — to create multiple arrangements or fill a larger support. Medium size.
- Set of 20 — for large wall installations or ambitious decor projects. XXL size.
- Tillandsia King Xero — unique large plant H23 cm, spectacular silver leaves. The statement piece.
- Tillandsia Cyanea — spectacular pink flowering variety H38 cm, long-lasting bloom. The flowering version.
Why start with the set of 5? Five plants allow you to test different locations and display styles before investing in a larger set — each reacts slightly differently depending on the light and humidity of its space.
Exposure & location
Tillandsias appreciate bright indirect light and good air circulation — two essential conditions for their survival. Avoid direct sunlight in summer which burns their delicate leaves, and confined spaces without ventilation.
- Exposure: bright indirect light — avoid direct sun in summer.
- Ideal: hanging near a window, open terrarium, decorative stand, bright bathroom.
- Temperature: 15 to 25 °C, without sudden changes.
- Support: no substrate — hang on driftwood, shell, stone, metal stand, or suspension.
A bright bathroom is their ideal location — the room’s natural humidity reduces the need for misting. Our light and humidity guide details how to optimize conditions for your air plants.
Watering & care
Watering Tillandsia is radically different from other plants — they absorb water through their leaves, not their roots.
- Method: mist 2 to 3 times a week, or a full bath of 20 to 30 minutes once a week.
- After bathing: gently shake to remove excess water and let dry upside down — stagnant water in the rosette center causes rot.
- Water: use rainwater or filtered water — Tillandsia are sensitive to lime and chlorine.
- Humidity: prefers 50 to 70% humidity — increase misting in summer and during heating periods.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring-summer, liquid orchid fertilizer diluted to a quarter in the misting water.
- Air circulation: essential — avoid confined spaces without ventilation.
In winter with heating, double the misting frequency — the dry air in heated apartments is their main enemy.
Decor ideas
Without soil or pot, Tillandsia offer decorative possibilities no other plant allows — they can live anywhere there is light and air.
- Arrangements to create: hang several plants on the same driftwood support, slip them into shells, place them on pebbles, or fix them in an open terrarium for a minimalist plant display.
- Turnkey format: discover our Tillandsia set on LED stand or our Kokodama Tillandsia mix for ready-made arrangements.
- Style: minimalist, Bohemian, natural — Tillandsia adapt to all decor styles without ever imposing themselves.
Create spectacular aerial arrangements by hanging several Tillandsia on the same driftwood support — the effect is immediate and requires no special skill.
Verdeia tips
- Always dry them after soaking — turn them upside down for 1 to 2 hours after each soak to drain water from the center of the rosette. This is the most important step to prevent rot, the only real danger for these plants.
- Use only rainwater or filtered water — lime and chlorine in tap water clog the trichomes, the tiny hairs that allow the leaves to absorb water and nutrients. With tap water, plants gradually weaken for no apparent reason.
- Some varieties may bloom — Ionanta turns bright red just before blooming, a rare and fascinating sight. Blooming happens only once in the plant’s life, but it produces offsets that continue the colony.
- The set contains a surprise selection — exact varieties vary according to current availability. Each set guarantees 5 healthy and different plants, but not identical specific varieties from one order to another.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
