Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the tips of my Asplenium Campio's fronds turning brown? It’s almost always due to low ambient humidity — the dry air in heated apartments is the main cause. Increase misting frequency, place the pot on a saucer of moist clay pebbles, or move the plant to a more humid bathroom.
Is Asplenium Campio suitable for a low-light room? Yes — it tolerates low light better than most graphic ferns. A room with diffuse indirect light is perfect. However, total darkness without any natural light will eventually exhaust the plant in the long term.

🌿 Glossy green wavy fronds • 🎨 Compact, graphic rosette form • ☀️ Partial shade • 💧 Regular watering • 🌬️ Air-purifying • 🐾 Non-toxic • 📏 H50 cm | Pot Ø17 cm
Asplenium nidus 'Campio', also known as the Bird's Nest Fern, is an elegant, graphic indoor fern native to the humid tropical forests of Southeast Asia and Australia, where it naturally grows as an epiphyte in shaded undergrowth. Its glossy green fronds, with pronounced undulations and crisped edges, form a spectacular, sculptural rosette - the most graphic and expressive Asplenium variety in the catalogue.
Air-purifying, non-toxic, and easy to care for. Pair it with indoor ferns and bathroom plants.
Which Asplenium variety should you choose?
The Asplenium genus offers several varieties with distinct frond textures, all sharing the same light and humidity requirements:
- Asplenium nidus 'Campio' (this plant) - highly wavy, spectacular fronds with a compact H50 cm form. The most graphic and expressive version.
- Asplenium 'Osaka' - slightly wavy fronds with a balanced form. The elegant middle ground between smooth and wavy.
- Asplenium 'Crispy Wave' - very crisp, dense fronds with a compact, bushy form. The ultra-graphic miniature version.
- Asplenium antiquum - perfectly smooth, glossy fronds, available in several sizes. The refined classic version.
- Asplenium nidus 'Crissie' - wavy fronds with crisped edges, available in several sizes. The classic wavy version.
- Asplenium nidus - broad, smooth fronds with a generous, imposing form. The classic XXL version.
- Asplenium 'Parvati' - finely divided, lacy fronds with a unique lace-like effect. The most original version.
Why choose Campio? Its undulations are the most pronounced in the Asplenium range - this is the variety that creates the most volume, texture, and movement in a compact rosette. If you want a fern that stands out, this is the one.
Light & placement
Asplenium 'Campio' thrives in partial shade with soft indirect light - it tolerates low light better than most ferns. Its ideal location depends on the balance between light and humidity.
- Exposure: partial shade, soft indirect light - tolerates low light, avoids direct sun.
- Ideal: bathroom, office, bedroom, living room, or a low-light room.
- Temperature: 18 to 24 °C, with no sudden changes or drafts.
- Substrate: light, rich, and well-draining - potting soil for ferns or green plants with perlite.
The bathroom is its ideal location - the room's natural humidity recreates its original habitat, and its wavy fronds shine with a particularly striking brilliance there.
Watering & care
Asplenium 'Campio' likes its substrate to remain slightly moist at all times. Essential rule: never water directly into the center of the rosette - always water around the base. The finger test remains the most reliable method.
- Watering: regular - keep the substrate slightly moist without waterlogging it.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times a week in spring and summer, reduced slightly in winter.
- Drainage: essential - use a pot with drainage holes and well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: it thrives with 60 to 80% humidity - mist regularly or place near a humidifier.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, using a liquid fertilizer for green plants diluted by half.
Campio's highly wavy fronds capture more dust than smooth varieties - gently brushing them once a month with a soft brush maintains their shine and optimizes photosynthesis.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its highly wavy, glossy green fronds create unique volume and texture - an accent plant that naturally becomes the focal point of any arrangement.
- In combination: pair it with a Spathiphyllum for an elegant air-purifying arrangement, or choose the Asplenium + Spathiphyllum + Epipremnum air-purifying trio.
- Ideal pot: a white ceramic relief decorative pot — its sculpted texture resonates with the fronds' pronounced undulations.
- Setting: perfect as an accent plant in a bright bathroom or living room — its compact rosette and very wavy fronds create a naturally spectacular focal point.
Verdeia tips
- High humidity, water at the base — mist the fronds regularly but always water around the base, never in the centre of the rosette. Standing water in the centre quickly causes the central bud to rot — the only real mistake to avoid with this fern.
- Brown tips on the fronds indicate air that is too dry — double the misting frequency or place the pot on a saucer of damp clay pebbles. During the winter heating season, dry air is the Asplenium Campio's main enemy.
- Air-purifying and non-toxic — Asplenium absorbs formaldehyde and xylene present in indoor air, without posing any risk to cats, dogs or children. Its benefits for indoor air are detailed in the analysis plants and air quality.
- New fronds emerge curled — they slowly unfurl from the centre of the rosette. Never touch them at this stage: they are extremely fragile, and an impact can permanently deform the developing frond.
