Frequently Asked Questions
Is Alocasia Cucullata easy to care for? Yes, it is one of the most robust and tolerant Alocasias — it handles light variations and missed waterings better than most other varieties in the genus.
How can I prevent Alocasia leaves from drooping? Leaf drooping almost always indicates a lack of water — water immediately and the leaves usually straighten within 24 hours; if the soil is wet, it is instead a sign of overwatering.

🌿 2 Alocasias with complementary foliage • 🎨 Heart-shaped leaves + wavy leaves • ☀️ Partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 🏙️ Elegant tropical duo
This Alocasia pack brings together two varieties of Elephant Ears with highly complementary silhouettes: Alocasia cucullata with large, glossy green heart-shaped leaves and Alocasia Lauterbachiana with long, narrow, wavy dark green leaves and highly pronounced veins. A balanced duo combining brightness and graphic appeal, among our plant bundles.
Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, these two Alocasias share the same light and humidity requirements - making their daily care easier to manage. Watering, humidity, and winter dormancy are the three keys to successfully growing Alocasias.
The 2 varieties in this pack
This pack brings together two Alocasias with very different silhouettes that complement each other visually:
- Alocasia cucullata - H55 cm | Pot Ø19 cm - large, rounded, glossy green heart-shaped leaves, with an elegant, upright, luminous growth habit. Adds freshness and lightness to the arrangement.
- Alocasia Lauterbachiana - H80 cm | Pot Ø19 cm - long, narrow, wavy dark green leaves with highly pronounced light veins, and a structured, slender growth habit. Adds graphic appeal and depth.
What is included in this pack
- 1 Alocasia cucullata - H55 cm | Pot Ø19 cm
- 1 Alocasia Lauterbachiana - H80 cm | Pot Ø19 cm
Light & placement
Both Alocasias in this pack share the same light requirements - bright indirect light to partial shade, with no direct sun that could scorch their large leaves.
- Light: bright indirect light to partial shade - avoid direct sun.
- Ideal location: living room, office, entryway, or bedroom with a bright window and no direct sun.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, with no sudden fluctuations or drafts.
- Substrate: rich, light, and well-draining - houseplant potting soil mixed with perlite.
Place the Lauterbachiana in the background for its height and slender leaves, and the Cucullata in the foreground for its rounded, luminous leaves - a natural balance between the two silhouettes.
Watering & care
Both varieties share the same requirements - a slightly moist substrate and high ambient humidity. The light-humidity balance is the most important factor in keeping their foliage healthy.
- Watering: moderate - keep the substrate slightly moist without ever leaving it waterlogged.
- Frequency: approximately once a week in spring and summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: essential - use pots with drainage holes and a well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: thrives at 60-80% - mist regularly or place near a humidifier.
- Fertilizer: every 2 to 4 weeks in spring and summer with diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
- Cleaning: gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their shine.
If the leaves droop slightly, it is almost always a sign of insufficient water - water the plant and they will generally recover within 24 hours.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
This duo already creates a balanced tropical arrangement on its own - it can also be incorporated into a more ambitious XXL arrangement.
- Complete this duo with an Alocasia Zebrina with striped stems, or choose the trio of three Alocasias with highly distinct silhouettes.
- Place the Cucullata in the Elho Brussels White decorative pot Ø20 cm - the clean white finish enhances the glossy green of its rounded leaves.
- Place the Lauterbachiana in the Elho Brussels Anthracite decorative pot Ø20 cm - the anthracite gray accentuates the contrast of the light veins against the dark green background.
- For a living room or entryway arrangement, add a Monstera Deliciosa with split leaves - three very different tropical foliage types (rounded / wavy-veined / split) for an arrangement fully inspired by Alocasia and extended to tropical plants.
Verdeia tips
- Maintain high humidity for both plants: this is the most important factor - in a heated apartment during winter, mist 2 to 3 times a week or place a humidifier nearby; brown edges on the leaves almost always indicate air that is too dry.
- Repot every 1 to 2 years in spring: use slightly larger pots with fresh, well-draining substrate - when done properly, repotting stimulates rapid growth in both varieties and encourages the production of new large leaves.
- Cut old yellowing leaves at the base: it is normal for a lower leaf to turn yellow as a new one emerges - cut it cleanly at the base with clean scissors to maintain a dense, vigorous growth habit in both plants.
