Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the edges of my Asplenium's leaves turning brown? Brown edges are almost always due to the lime in tap water or air that is too dry. Switch to filtered or rested water (left to sit for 24 hours), and mist the foliage 2 to 3 times a week in dry conditions — especially in winter when heating dries out the air.
Is the Asplenium Antiquum safe for pets? Yes, Asplenium is completely non-toxic to dogs and cats. It’s one of the few large decorative ferns that is entirely pet-friendly — a valuable advantage for homes with animals.

🌿 Large wavy vivid green leaves • 🌑 Partial shade to shade • 💧 Regular watering • 📏 D17 x H45 cm • 🧺 Black Selin basket D18 cm included • 🐾 Non-toxic
Asplenium Antiquum, or Bird's Nest Fern, is a tropical fern native to Southeast Asia. Its large, elongated, broad, slightly wavy leaves, in a vivid glossy green, give it a generous, architectural shape — airier than the classic Asplenium Nidus. This product comes ready to display in its black Selin woven basket D18 cm.
Non-toxic to pets, tolerant of low light, air-purifying. A reliable choice among pet-friendly plants.
Which Asplenium variety should you choose?
The Asplenium genus includes several ferns with very distinct foliage. Here are the available profiles:
- Asplenium Antiquum (this plant) — large, broad, slightly wavy leaves with a generous, airy shape, D17 x H45 cm. The most architectural.
- Asplenium Crispy Wave — very wavy, curly leaves, compact D12 x H25 cm size. The most graphic.
- Asplenium Nidus — broad, smooth leaves with a classic shape. The most understated.
- Asplenium Parvati — highly divided, curly leaves with a very bushy appearance. The most abundant.
- Asplenium Campio — broad, long leaves, imposing D17 x H50 cm size. The largest.
Other varieties of ferns are available — Osaka, Nidus Crissie, and more.
The black Selin basket — included
This product comes with the black Selin woven basket D18 cm — a decorative pot made of woven natural fibers with a chevron pattern in mottled black and beige.
- Diameter: 18 cm — sized to accommodate the D17 cm nursery pot.
- Height: 16 cm.
- Material: braided natural fibers.
- Color: speckled black and beige.
The Selin basket complements all decorative styles — minimalist, bohemian, or urban jungle. It can be used alone as a decorative pot for other plants once repotted.
Exposure & location
The Asplenium Antiquum naturally grows in humid tropical undergrowth — it is made for low-light spaces.
- Ideal exposure: partial shade to shade — soft indirect light, away from windows.
- Tolerates: low light, including artificial light alone.
- To avoid: direct sun, which burns and fades the leaves.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C, away from drafts and sudden changes.
- Humidity: high — mist regularly or place near a humidifier.
A bright bathroom is the ideal location — the natural humidity after showers suits it perfectly without any extra effort.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular — keep the substrate slightly moist without ever waterlogging it.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times a week in spring-summer, reduced in winter.
- Water: low-limescale water — filtered or rainwater. Limescale causes brown spots on the leaves.
- Drainage: a pot with drainage holes is mandatory — empty the Selin basket after watering.
- Fertilizer: liquid fertilizer for green plants, diluted by half, once a month in spring-summer.
Never pour water directly into the center of the rosette — always water around the plant to prevent rot. The watering frequency varies with the season: more frequent in summer, much less frequent in winter.
Verdeia Tips
- Do not touch the center of the rosette — stagnant water in the center of the plant causes rot. Always water around the edge of the substrate, never directly into the rosette.
- Limescale is its enemy — brown spots on the edges of the leaves and slower growth. Switch to filtered water or let the water stand overnight if your water is hard.
- Essential humidity — in a heated apartment during winter, dry air causes brown tips on the leaves. Mist 2 to 3 times a week or use a humidifier.
- Repot every 2 years — in spring, in a light, well-draining substrate. Choose a slightly larger pot. The first few days matter: a few simple steps can help you welcome a new plant.
- 🐾 Non-toxic — Asplenium is completely safe for dogs and cats. In a home with pets, other pet-friendly ideas can be found among these compatible plants and pets.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
