Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Pilea Peperomioides produce baby plants? Yes, that's one of its features — it regularly produces offshoots at the base called baby Pilea or stolons. These offshoots can be detached and replanted in a new pot or kokedama as soon as they reach a few centimeters.
Can a kokedama be placed instead of hung? Yes — place it on a saucer, a wooden stand, or a bowl of pebbles. It's a more understated display that works just as well as hanging. The advantage: easier to water and rotate regularly.

🌿 Pilea Peperomioides in kokodama • 🥥 Coconut fiber ball • 🪢 Suspended by jute rope • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 📏 H20 cm | Kokodama Ø15 cm • 🐾 Non-toxic
This Kokodama Pilea Peperomioides is a Chinese money plant grown in a ball of substrate wrapped in natural coconut fiber, suspended by braided jute rope with a wooden stick. An original, natural way to display Pilea — ready to hang, with no additional accessories needed. Ø15 cm, total height 20 cm.
Non-toxic to pets and easy to care for. A reliable favorite among trailing hanging plants.
Kokodama — a Japanese technique
Kokodama is a Japanese growing technique — the plant grows in a compact ball of substrate wrapped in coconut fiber, suspended or placed directly on a surface. No pot, no decorative pot — the ball is both the container and the decorative element.
- Natural: coconut fiber and jute, 100% natural materials.
- Versatile: can be hung from the ceiling or placed on a saucer or stand.
- Decorative: the textured coconut ball contrasts with Pilea's glossy foliage.
Other plants are available as kokodamas — Monstera Minima, Jungle Mix, Maranta Mix and more.
Light & placement
- Ideal exposure: bright indirect light — near an east- or west-facing window.
- Avoid: direct sun, which can burn the delicate round leaves, and excessive shade, which slows growth.
- Temperature: 15–25 °C.
- Hanging: hang from a ceiling hook or rod — leave enough clear space around it so the foliage can grow freely.
Pilea turns its leaves toward the light — rotate the kokodama a quarter turn every week for even growth and well-distributed leaves all around the ball.
Watering & care
- Technique: submerge the ball in a container of water for 10 to 15 minutes, then let it drain thoroughly before hanging it again.
- Frequency: when the coconut ball feels light to the touch and is dry on the surface — approximately once a week in summer.
- Water: preferably use limescale-free water — filtered or rainwater.
- Fertilizer: add a few drops of liquid fertilizer to the soaking water once a month in spring and summer.
The coconut ball feels light when it needs water and heavy when it is well hydrated — a very practical natural indicator. Discover more decorative hanging ideas among our hanging plants.
Decorating ideas
The Kokodama Pilea adds a natural, handcrafted touch to plant-filled interiors.
- Hung alone: hung near a bright window, its large, bright green round leaves shine in the light.
- As a hanging arrangement: combine it with other kokodamas at different heights for a highly decorative suspended forest effect.
- Placed on a surface: place it on a saucer or wooden stand for a simple, natural Japanese-inspired style.
The jute rope can be shortened or lengthened to suit the desired height — a practical advantage for adapting the hanging display to your space.
Verdeia tips
- Water by soaking, not by sprinkling — pouring water over the coconut ball wets the surface without hydrating the core. Soaking in water for 10-15 minutes is the only effective way to thoroughly rehydrate the substrate.
- Drain thoroughly before hanging again — a waterlogged ball drips and can damage the floor or furniture underneath. Let it drain over a sink for a few minutes before hanging it again.
- Rotate regularly — Pilea directs its leaves toward the light. A weekly quarter turn ensures symmetrical growth and attractive foliage distributed all around. Pilea regularly produces offsets at the base, which are easy to propagate by cuttings.
- 🐾 Non-toxic — Pilea Peperomioides is completely safe for dogs and cats.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
