Daffodils and narcissi are among the first flowers of spring: their yellow, white or bicolour trumpets emerge in late winter, often before the rest of the garden even wakes up. Planted in autumn, the bulbs overwinter in the ground and deliver a generous, long-lasting bloom year after year. Easy, hardy and naturalising, they are the essential bulbs for a garden, a balcony or a planter that kicks off the season in colour.
Trumpet and large-cup daffodils
The classics of the genus. The 'Carlton' jonquil and the large-cup narcissus unfurl large golden-yellow flowers on long stems, perfect for beds and bouquets. The 'Mount Hood' jonquil offers a more refined ivory-white variant with a cream trumpet. These large-flowered varieties are the most spectacular and visible from afar, ideal for structuring a spring border.
Double daffodils
For a more opulent effect, double daffodils multiply their petals into generous pompoms. The 'Golden Ducat' (golden yellow), the 'Ice King' (white and cream), the 'Macaron Bloss' and the 'Replete' (pink and white) look more like roses than classic daffodils. They bring volume and texture to arrangements, both in the garden and in pots.
Fragrant and dwarf daffodils
The 'Thalia' narcissus (pure white) and the poet's narcissus 'Recurvus' (pheasant's eye) are prized for their delicate scent, perfect near a terrace or an entrance. For small spaces, the 'Tête-à-Tête' narcissus (dwarf), the 'February Gold' jonquil and the 'White Petticoat' stay compact and flower early, ideal in a planter, a pot or a low border. These small formats also find their place among the plants for setting up a balcony.
Ready-to-plant mixes
For a natural effect with no fuss, our mixes combine several complementary varieties: daffodils and narcissi mix, botanical yellow and white narcissi, double daffodils mix or large-cup narcissi. They create a staggered, abundant bloom, perfect for naturalising a lawn or filling a large planter. These bulbs pair naturally with the other spring flower bulbs for a succession of blooms.
When and how to plant
Daffodil bulbs are planted in autumn, from September to December, before the first hard frosts. Bury them at a depth of about three times their height, tip pointing up, in well-drained soil. They flower from February to April depending on the variety and climate. Once established, let the foliage yellow naturally after flowering: this is what recharges the bulb for the following year. Hardy and perennial, daffodils come back faithfully every spring and multiply over the years.
Daffodils in the garden and on the balcony
Daffodils lend themselves to every use: in the ground to naturalise a lawn or the foot of a tree, as a bed edging, or in a pot and planter to brighten a balcony or a windowsill. They combine very well with other spring bulbs (tulips, grape hyacinths, crocuses) to compose an evolving container. Another asset: daffodils are known to deter rodents, which also protects neighbouring bulbs. They naturally find their place among the hardy outdoor plants that liven up the garden from the end of winter.
