Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the foliage of a Calathea lose its patterns and color? It’s almost always due to light that is too intense or direct — place it in bright indirect light and the patterns will naturally regain their intensity.
Which plant should you choose to brighten a dark corner in the evening without electricity? A hydroponic plant on a battery-powered LED base is ideal — it provides both living greenery and soft ambient light without cables or plugs.

💡 Integrated LED lighting • 🌱 Hydroponic cultivation • 🏺 Spherical glass jar • 🌿 Tropical graphic foliage • 🐾 Non-toxic • 📏 H10 cm | Jar Ø12 cm
The Calathea hydroponique Samoa LED is a living, luminous plant that combines the tropical graphic foliage of Calathea with the contemporary design of water cultivation. Grown without soil in a transparent spherical glass jar set on a natural wood base with integrated LED, it illuminates its roots from below with a soothing golden glow.
Its dark green foliage with pronounced silver veins and a characteristic burgundy-brown underside creates an immediately striking graphic composition. It fits just as well in small spaces as in original gift arrangements.
Light & placement
Calathea appreciates soft, stable light — this is the main condition for preserving the intensity of its leaf patterns. Too much direct light fades the veins; too little slows growth. Its ideal location depends on the balance of light and humidity indoors.
- Light: bright indirect light or bright partial shade — protected from direct sun.
- Locations: bedside table, desk, shelf in a bright room, bright bathroom.
- Temperature: 18 to 26 °C, protected from cold drafts and direct heat sources.
The base LED is purely decorative — it creates a very soft golden atmosphere in the evening but does not replace the natural light required for Calathea's photosynthesis.
Watering & care
Hydroponic cultivation eliminates common watering mistakes. Calathea, often delicate in soil, adapts particularly well to this growing method, which ensures constant root moisture — ideal for never overwatering again.
- Water level: check every two weeks and top up if necessary — the roots should remain partially submerged.
- Renewal: change all the water every 2 to 3 weeks to prevent deposits and maintain the jar's clarity.
- Fertiliser: a few drops of diluted hydroponic fertiliser every six to eight weeks in spring and summer are sufficient.
- Jar care: clean the glass with clear water to maintain its transparency and the LED's luminous effect.
Use filtered or low-limescale water — Calathea is sensitive to dissolved minerals, which can stain the leaves and dull the glass, reducing the decorative effect of the arrangement.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
The Samoa LED jar fits into the jars and bottles collection and stands out for the graphic richness of its foliage — silver veins on a dark green background, burgundy undersides — which pairs particularly well with plants with solid or monochrome foliage.
- For a luminous trio arrangement, pair the Calathea Samoa LED with the Clusia Samoa LED and the Calathea Insignis in a Kingston vase — three illuminated jars with distinct tropical foliage create a highly graphic plant display on a shelf or sideboard.
- On a bedside table, the Samoa LED is an excellent alternative to a traditional night-light — the LED light filtered through the spherical glass and golden roots creates a soothing atmosphere perfect for a bedroom space.
- For a contrast of textures, place it beside a Nephrolepis Green Lady — the airy delicacy of the fern's fronds contrasts with the bold graphics and broad surfaces of Calathea's foliage.
- As a ready-to-gift arrangement, the combination of a living plant with graphic foliage, a glass jar and golden LED creates a complete, instantly decorative set — to give for any occasion without additional accessories.
Verdeia tips
- Turn off the LED during the day to extend battery life: Calathea does not need the LED for photosynthesis — reserve the lighting for the evening for maximum decorative effect and longer battery life.
- Gently wipe the leaves once a month: a slightly damp soft cloth is enough to revive the shine of the silver veins and remove dust that dulls the foliage's graphic contrast.
- Replace all the water rather than topping it up: the spherical shape of the jar concentrates mineral deposits at the bottom — a complete water change every 2 to 3 weeks keeps the water perfectly clear and highlights the LED light.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
