No soil, no repotting, no messy potting mix: hydroponics is the cultivation of plants directly in water. Elegant in a glass vase, placed on a wooden or metal stand, or illuminated by built-in LEDs — our hydroponic plants turn greenery into contemporary design objects.
How does it work?
In hydroponics, the plant’s roots are immersed directly in water. The plant draws nutrients through a root system adapted to the aquatic environment. Maintenance is limited to keeping the water level up and changing it every 2 to 3 weeks to prevent stagnation. No watering to measure, no substrate that dries out or molds, no soil gnats — it’s the simplest method to keep plants at home.
Plants in vases and glass jars
Our Clusia in jars (Samoa, Victoria, Kingston, cylinder), Monstera Adansonii in glass, and Sansevieria in cylinders are ready-to-display hydroponic arrangements. The roots visible through the glass are part of the aesthetic — they add an organic, living dimension to the object. Versions with a cork stopper create a semi-closed terrarium that further reduces maintenance. Also check out our collection of plants in jars and vases.
Hydroponic trios: design arrangements
Our hydroponic plant trios are sets of 3 plants on coordinated decorative stands. The trio in glass bottles with wooden bases combines natural elements and minimalism. The trio in metal cages with LEDs provides soft lighting that highlights the plants even in a dark room. The trio on a circular metal stand creates a sculptural focal point. And the Santiago trio in colorful flasks adds a splash of color. Each set is ready to display and makes a spectacular gift. Explore also our collection of ready-to-gift plants.
Individual stands and glass tubes
The hydroponic plant on a golden leaf stand with a wooden base is a true decorative object that stands on its own. The glass tubes (small and medium) offer a sleek format that fits anywhere — on a desk, shelf, or windowsill. The set of 3 Clusia tubes allows you to create a lined-up or scattered arrangement. Versions with built-in LEDs work even in spaces without natural light. See our article light and humidity: finding the right balance.
Hydroponic care
Maintenance is minimalist: keep the water level so the roots stay submerged, change the water every 2 to 3 weeks (or when it becomes cloudy), and add a few drops of liquid hydroponic fertilizer once a month during the growing period. Use room temperature water, ideally non-calcareous. That’s all — no drainage to check, no watering schedule to guess, no repotting. Our complete watering guide details best practices.
Giving a hydroponic plant as a gift
Hydroponic plants make ideal gifts: the vase or stand is part of the set, no need for an extra decorative pot. The result is a ready-to-display object, elegant and easy to care for — perfect for someone without a green thumb or who has never had a plant. Trios with LEDs are especially impressive to unwrap.
