Frequently Asked Questions
Can you leave an Aloe vera without watering during vacation? Yes — it is one of the most tolerant plants to absence. An adult Aloe vera can easily go 3 to 4 weeks without watering, or even longer in winter. Water well before leaving and make sure it gets enough light — it will manage very well on its own.
Why are my Aloe vera leaves softening and becoming translucent? This is a sign of overwatering — the roots are starting to rot. Take the plant out of its pot, let the soil and roots dry completely in open air for 2 to 3 days, remove any blackened roots if necessary, then repot in fresh, dry soil. Do not water for 2 weeks after repotting.

🌿 Graphic architectural rosette • 💚 Soothing and healing gel • ☀️ Bright light • 💧 Very infrequent watering • 🪴 Textured concrete-effect pot included • 📏 H45 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) is an iconic medicinal succulent native to the Arabian Peninsula. Its long, fleshy grey-green leaves form an elegant, architectural rosette, filled with a transparent gel known for its soothing, healing and moisturizing properties, used for thousands of years. Ultra-easy to care for, it tolerates drought and missed waterings perfectly.
Delivered in its included light grey textured concrete-effect pot - a sleek, contemporary set, ready to display. Pair it with Aloe and cacti and succulents.
Which Aloe variety should you choose?
The Aloe genus offers several varieties in our catalogue:
- Aloe vera in a concrete-effect pot (this plant) - H45 cm | Pot Ø12 cm. The bold, graphic version, with abundant medicinal gel.
- Potted Aloe vera in jade - same size, in a jade-colored pot.
- Aloe Spider - slender, trailing leaves, very compact Ø10.5 cm size. The miniature, graphic version.
- Aloe paradisicum - wider leaves with contrasting patterns, compact size. The decorative version.
Why choose Aloe vera? It is the only variety whose leaves contain enough medicinal gel for practical everyday use. The other varieties are mainly decorative.
Light & placement
Aloe vera loves bright light - this is its main requirement for developing thick leaves filled with gel.
- Exposure: bright light to moderate direct sun - tolerates full sun once gradually acclimatized.
- Ideal: sunny windowsill, bright kitchen, office or sheltered balcony.
- Temperature: 15 to 25 °C, tolerates temperature fluctuations well.
- Substrate: very well-draining - potting soil for cacti and succulents with sand or perlite.
Place it in the brightest available spot — a south- or west-facing windowsill is ideal for dense leaves full of gel.
Watering & care
Aloe vera prefers underwatering to overwatering — its fleshy leaves store water and allow it to go several weeks without watering. The right watering schedule is determined by how quickly the substrate dries.
- Watering: low — let the substrate dry completely between waterings (every 2 to 3 weeks).
- Frequency: approximately every 2 to 3 weeks in summer, once a month in winter.
- Drainage: essential — absolutely avoid standing water, which rots the roots.
- Fertilizer: every 8 weeks in spring and summer with diluted liquid fertilizer for cacti.
Soft, translucent leaves indicate too much water — wrinkled, thinning leaves indicate a lack of water. In between, always wait until the substrate is completely dry.
Medicinal properties & uses
The gel contained in Aloe vera leaves has been used for millennia for its therapeutic and cosmetic benefits.
- Soothing properties: relieves minor burns, sunburn and skin irritations within minutes.
- Moisturizing properties: deeply hydrates and nourishes the skin — particularly effective on dry skin.
- Healing properties: promotes cellular regeneration and the healing of minor wounds and cracks.
- Use: cut an outer leaf at the base, extract the clear gel and apply it directly to the skin.
Keep an Aloe vera in your kitchen — its fresh gel is the best immediate remedy for minor everyday cooking burns.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Its graphic, architectural rosette and textured concrete-effect pot create a clean, contemporary arrangement — a plant that is both decorative and useful, rare in nature.
- Pairing: pair it with a Sansevieria Laurentii or a Lepismium bolivianum for a succulent arrangement with contrasting forms — they all share the same minimal needs for water and light.
- Pot included: the light grey textured concrete-effect pot is included — the set is ready to display with nothing else needed.
- Setting: perfect on a sunny windowsill, in a kitchen or a bright office — its architectural silhouette creates a strong graphic accent.
Verdeia tips
- Less water is better than too much — Aloe vera is a succulent that stores water in its leaves. Root rot caused by excess water is its main cause of death. Always wait until the substrate is completely dry before watering — even in summer.
- It produces offsets — Aloe vera naturally produces “babies” at its base, also called pups. You can carefully separate them from the mother plant once they have a few leaves and replant them in dry substrate to propagate them.
- Use the fresh gel — to use its medicinal properties, always cut an outer leaf (the oldest one) at the base. Extract the transparent gel — not the irritating yellow latex — and apply it directly. Avoid ingesting the yellow latex found between the skin and the gel.
- Slightly toxic if ingested — the yellow latex contained beneath the leaf skin is irritating to cats and dogs. Keep it out of reach of animals that may chew the leaves.
