Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the leaves of my Aglaonema turning yellow? Yellowing is almost always due to overwatering or stagnant water in the saucer. Reduce the watering frequency and always empty the saucer after each watering. Also check that the pot has drainage holes and that the soil drains properly.
Is the Jungle Silver Aglaonema toxic to pets? Yes, like all Aglaonemas, it contains irritating calcium oxalates. It is toxic to dogs and cats if ingested. Keep it out of reach of pets and young children.

🥈 Graphic silver foliage • 🌑 Tolerates low light • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H60 cm | Pot Ø19 cm • 🌬️ Air-purifying • ⚠️ Toxic to pets
The Aglaonema 'Jungle Silver', also called Chinese Evergreen, is a tropical plant native to the shaded understories of Southeast Asia. Its large, dark green lance-shaped leaves marked with broad, highly contrasting silver areas create a graphic foliage instantly recognizable — bright even in dim corners.
Robust, forgiving of neglect, and able to thrive where many decorative plants wither, it is one of the best plants for low-light spaces. It also helps purify indoor air. Note: toxic if ingested by pets.
Which Aglaonema variety to choose?
Aglaonemas are mainly distinguished by the color and intensity of their variegation. Here are the most distinct profiles from our collection:
- Aglaonema 'Jungle Silver' (this plant) — large, highly contrasting silver areas on a dark green background. The most graphic and luminous in dim spaces.
- Aglaonema Silver Bay — wide central silver band on a green background. Softer contrast, elegant form.
- Aglaonema Silver Queen — almost entirely silver foliage with green veins. The brightest and most luminous.
- Aglaonema Spring Red — green and pink-red foliage, warm color touches. The most colorful.
- Aglaonema B.J. Freedman — large dark green leaves, impressive 70 cm size. The most voluminous.
Other varieties are available in our full collection — including cream white, light green, and multicolored tones for every style.
Exposure & location
The Aglaonema 'Jungle Silver' is one of the most shade-tolerant decorative plants — a rare quality among plants with graphic foliage.
- Ideal exposure: moderate to low indirect light — a few meters from a window, in an interior office or hallway.
- Tolerates: relative shade, spaces without direct natural light, artificial lighting only.
- Avoid: prolonged direct sunlight that fades the silver areas and burns the leaves.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C — very sensitive to cold. Below 15 °C, growth stops and spots appear.
- Soil: light universal potting mix with some perlite.
Unlike most silver-leafed plants, Jungle Silver maintains the intensity of its patterns even in dim corners — this is its main advantage over other varieties.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — let the surface of the substrate dry slightly between waterings.
- Frequency: once a week in spring-summer, every 10–15 days in winter.
- Water: room temperature water, filtered or left to stand for 24 hours if possible.
- Humidity: prefers 50–70% humidity — occasionally mist the foliage in very dry air.
- Fertilizer: liquid green plant fertilizer diluted by half, once a month in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to preserve the silver shine and promote photosynthesis.
Aglaonema easily forgives missed waterings — when in doubt, wait rather than water too much. Excess water is its main cause of decline.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
The Jungle Silver is a plant that brings light where there is none — its silver areas reflect light and visually brighten dark corners.
- In a low-light corner: placed on a low piece of furniture or a shelf away from windows, it remains decorative where most graphic plants wither.
- In arrangement: pair it with a Zamioculcas or a Philodendron for a contrast of textures and volumes in a low-light interior.
- Ideal pot: matte black or anthracite ceramic — the dark/silver contrast is striking and enhances the graphic effect of the foliage.
Group several Aglaonema varieties with different silver variegations to create a cohesive indoor tropical display — same care needs, varied silver shades.
Verdeia advice
- Yellow leaves: usually overwatering — always empty the saucer after watering and let the soil dry out more. In pots, yellowing is almost always due to stagnant moisture.
- Brown tips: air too dry or excess fertilizer — mist the foliage in very dry air and always dilute fertilizer to half strength. Too concentrated fertilizer burns roots and causes brown tips.
- Protect it from cold — below 15 °C, growth stops and brown or translucent spots appear on the leaves. Keep it away from poorly insulated windows in winter and drafts.
- The silver patterns are stable — unlike other Aglaonemas whose variegation changes with light, Jungle Silver keeps its silver areas even in low light. This is its uniqueness.
- Repot in spring without urgency — Aglaonema prefers to be slightly root-bound. Repot only when roots appear under the pot, every 2–3 years.
- ⚠️ Toxic to pets and humans — contains irritating calcium oxalates. Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and young children. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.
