🤍 Cream-white variegated foliage • 🌑 Tolerates low light • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H40 cm | Pot Ø19 cm • 🌬️ Air-purifying • ⚠️ Toxic to pets
The Aglaonema 'White Kiwi', also called Chinese Evergreen, is a tropical plant native to the understory of Southeast Asia. Its large lance-shaped dark green leaves, marked with broad bright cream variegations, create graphic and bright foliage — especially effective for adding light to dim corners.
Compact size H40 cm | Pot Ø19 cm, sturdy, forgiving of neglect, and able to thrive in low light — it’s one of the best plants for low-light spaces. It also helps purify indoor air. Note: toxic if ingested by pets.
Which Aglaonema variety to choose?
Aglaonemas are mainly distinguished by the color and intensity of their variegation. Here are the most distinct profiles from our collection:
- Aglaonema 'White Kiwi' (this plant) — large cream-white variegation on a dark green background, compact size with a delivered height of about 40 cm. The brightest and most luminous in low-light spaces.
- Aglaonema 'Jungle Silver' — large, highly contrasting silver areas, H60 cm size. The most graphic and contrasting.
- Aglaonema Silver Bay — wide silver central band, elegant habit. The most classic.
- Aglaonema Spring Red — pink, red, and green foliage, H60 cm size. The only warm-colored variety.
- Aglaonema B.J. Freedman — large dark green leaves, impressive size H70 cm. The bulkiest.
The White Kiwi is the most compact in our catalog — ideal for spaces where other Aglaonemas would be too bulky. Find all varieties in our full collection.
Exposure & location
The Aglaonema 'White Kiwi' naturally grows under the tropical canopy — it tolerates low light while keeping its graphic foliage, a rare quality for such a decorative plant.
- Ideal exposure: moderate to low indirect light — a few meters from a window, in an interior office or hallway.
- Tolerates: partial shade, spaces without direct natural light.
- Avoid: direct sunlight that burns the white areas, very sensitive as they lack protective chlorophyll.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C — sensitive to cold. Growth stops below 15 °C.
- Soil: light universal potting mix with some perlite.
Attention: unlike silver Aglaonemas, the cream white areas of the White Kiwi are especially sensitive to direct sunlight. A sheer curtain or a spot away from the window is preferable.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — let the surface of the substrate dry slightly between waterings.
- Frequency: once a week in spring-summer, every 10–15 days in winter.
- Water: room temperature water, filtered or left to stand for 24 hours if possible.
- Humidity: prefers 50–70% humidity — mist occasionally in very dry air.
- Fertilizer: liquid green plant fertilizer diluted by half, once a month in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their shine.
Aglaonema easily forgives missed waterings — when in doubt, wait rather than water too much. Excess water is its main cause of decline.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
The White Kiwi brings brightness where there is none — its creamy white areas reflect light and visually brighten dark corners.
- In a low-light corner: its compact size and light foliage make it an ideal plant for shelves and furniture away from windows.
- In arrangements: pair it with a Jungle Silver or a Zamioculcas for a very effective creamy white/silver/dark green contrast.
- Ideal pot: matte black or anthracite ceramic — the dark/white contrast is striking and enhances the graphic effect of the foliage.
Its compact size D19 x H40 cm makes it especially suitable for small spaces — windowsills, shelves, desk corners — where 60 cm tall versions would be too bulky.
Verdeia advice
- Yellow leaves: usually overwatering — always empty the saucer after watering and let the soil dry out more. In pots, yellowing is almost always due to stagnant moisture.
- Variegation turning green: lack of light — if new leaves come out greener and less white, move the plant to a slightly brighter spot without direct sun. The color will return on new growth.
- White areas burned: too much sun — areas without chlorophyll are especially sensitive. Brown spots on white parts indicate too much direct exposure. Move away from the window or add a sheer curtain.
- Protect from cold — below 15 °C, growth stops and spots appear on the leaves. Keep away from poorly insulated windows in winter.
- Repot in spring without urgency — Aglaonema prefers to be slightly root-bound. Repot only when roots appear under the pot, every 2–3 years.
- ⚠️ Toxic to pets and humans — contains irritating calcium oxalates. Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and young children. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.
