Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my mini cactus growing elongated and pointed? This is etiolation, a reaction to insufficient light: the deformation is permanent, but subsequent growth will resume with a normal diameter in bright light.
How can I make mini cacti bloom? Give them a two- to three-month winter dormancy at 8 to 12 °C without watering, an essential condition for spring flowering.

🌵 Assortment of various species • 🪴 Miniature Ø5.5 cm size • ☀️ Bright light • 💧 Very infrequent watering • 🎁 Ideal as a gift • 🔢 6 quantities to choose from
This assortment brings together mini cacti from several species, supplied in Ø5.5 cm growing pots and measuring 5 to 10 cm tall. Columnar, spherical, ribbed, or covered in white down, they come from the arid regions of Central and South America and join the Cacti & succulents selection in the catalogue.
Their appeal lies in their diversity: each batch combines different forms, making it possible to create a row on a windowsill, fill a tray, or decorate a terrarium with a single order. Quantities range from 3 plants for a gift to 18 plants for a complete arrangement.
Light & placement
Cacti require as much bright light as possible. In insufficient light, they become etiolated, producing pale, thin growth at the top—a permanent deformation that can never be corrected.
- Light: bright light to direct sun — south- or west-facing windowsill, without a sheer curtain.
- Placement: windowsill, bright desk, conservatory, open terrarium — also a sheltered balcony from June to September.
- Temperature: 18 to 30 °C during growth — a cool winter rest between 8 and 12 °C encourages flowering.
- Soil type: very well-draining specialist cactus soil, mixed with coarse sand or pumice.
A cactus that becomes thinner towards the top is lacking light: the section that has already stretched will remain that way; only subsequent growth will regain a normal diameter once the plant receives better light.
Watering & care
In a Ø5.5 cm pot, the volume of substrate is very small and dries quickly, but excess water remains far more dangerous than forgetting to water. A well-draining substrate is essential in such a small container.
- Watering: very infrequent — every 2 to 3 weeks from April to September, briefly soaking the pot and then allowing it to drain completely.
- Winter: almost complete pause — water at most once a month, or not at all if the room is cool.
- Drainage: essential — never leave stagnant water in a saucer or closed decorative pot.
- Humidity: no requirements; never mist.
- Fertiliser: half-strength cactus fertiliser, once a month from May to August only.
- Repotting: after one year into a barely wider pot, using thick gloves or a folded strip of newspaper.
The base of older cacti becoming brown and hard is a normal process of lignification; a soft, dark base, however, indicates rot caused by excess water.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
The strength of this format lies in repetition: arranged in a row or grouped together, mini cacti create a collector’s display that a single plant can never achieve.
- For a windowsill display, arrange batches of 9 to 18 plants in a tight row inside identical small decorative pots — the uniformity of the containers highlights the diversity of the forms.
- For an open terrarium, pair them with a Mix of 10 succulents in the same Ø5.5 cm size — rigid ribs and fleshy leaves create two complementary textures on a bed of gravel.
- For a decorative tray, group six to nine plants on a wide saucer with pale sand — the arrangement can be moved as one unit and reads like a miniature landscape.
- For a ready-to-give gift, the batch of 3 plants fits inside a matte white Ø14 cm Gabriel decorative pot — three cacti in one container create an instant mini garden.
The Ø5.5 cm growing pots fit as they are inside most Ø6 to 7 cm decorative pots, so there is no need to handle the cacti when repotting.
Verdeia tips
- Water by soaking rather than from above: in a 5.5 cm pot, water poured onto the surface runs off without moistening the root ball. Place the pot in a shallow amount of water for two minutes, then allow it to drain completely before putting it back in place.
- Handle them with a strip of newspaper: folded into a narrow band and wrapped around the cactus, it makes an effective handle without crushing the ribs or getting the spines caught in your gloves.
- Give them a cool, dry winter: kept for two to three months at 8 to 12 °C without watering, most species will flower the following spring. This is the only condition for obtaining flowers on this type of cactus.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
