Frequently Asked Questions
Does the purple underside of the Alocasia Wentii fade over time? No, the purple underside is a permanent feature of the variety — it remains vibrant as long as the plant is healthy and receives enough indirect light.
Is the Alocasia Wentii difficult to care for? It is considered one of the hardiest Alocasias — it tolerates light variations and missed waterings better than most other varieties in the genus, making it a good choice for beginners.

🌿 2 Alocasias with complementary foliage • 🎨 Bright green + spectacular purple underside • ☀️ Partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 🏙️ Bicolor tropical duo
This Alocasia pack brings together two varieties of Elephant Ears with complementary foliage: the Alocasia Cucullata with large, rounded bright green leaves and the Alocasia Wentii with dark green leaves and a spectacular purple underside — a rare and elegant bicolor contrast. One of the most sophisticated duos in our plant sets selection.
Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, these two Alocasias share the same light and humidity needs — a maintenance consistency that simplifies their care. Everything you need to know is gathered in our complete Alocasia guide.
The 2 varieties in this pack
This pack includes two Alocasias with very different shapes and color palettes:
- Alocasia Cucullata — H60 cm | Pot Ø19 cm — large, rounded heart-shaped bright green leaves, upright and bright habit. Adds freshness and lightness to the arrangement.
- Alocasia Wentii — H60 cm | Pot Ø19 cm — broad dark green leaves with a spectacular deep purple underside, imposing habit. The colored underside reveals itself with the slightest air movement — a unique bicolor effect in its kind.
What is included in this pack
- 1 Alocasia Cucullata — H60 cm | Pot Ø19 cm
- 1 Alocasia Wentii — H60 cm | Pot Ø19 cm
Light & location
Both Alocasias in this pack share the same light requirements — bright indirect light to partial shade, avoiding direct sunlight that would burn their large leaves.
- Light: bright indirect light to partial shade — avoid direct sun.
- Ideal: living room, office, hallway, or bedroom with a well-exposed window without direct sun.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, without sudden changes or drafts.
- Substrate: rich, light, and well-draining — potting soil for green plants mixed with perlite.
Place the Wentii in the background — its height (H85 cm) and broad leaves structure the composition, while the Cucullata in the foreground adds a rounded and bright note.
Watering & care
Both varieties share the same needs — a slightly moist substrate and high ambient humidity. The light-humidity balance is the most important factor to keep their foliage healthy.
- Watering: moderate — keep the substrate slightly moist without ever letting it become soggy.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring-summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: essential — pots must have drainage holes with well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: prefers 60–80% — mist regularly or place near a humidifier.
- Fertilizer: every 2 to 4 weeks in spring-summer with diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
- Cleaning: gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth — also clean the underside of Wentii leaves to preserve the intensity of the purple underside.
If the leaves droop slightly, it is almost always a sign of lack of water — water and they usually straighten up within 24 hours.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
The bright green / dark green with purple underside contrast of this duo already creates a strong bicolor composition — it naturally fits into sophisticated tropical arrangements.
- Place the Cucullata in the Elho Brussels White decorative pot Ø20 cm — the white enhances the brightness of its rounded green leaves and creates a sharp contrast with the Wentii.
- Place the Wentii in the Elho Brussels Anthracite decorative pot Ø20 cm — the deep anthracite gray accentuates the dark green leaves and highlights the purple underside through color contrast.
- Complete this duo with an Alocasia Lauterbachiana with long wavy leaves to form an Alocasia trio with very distinct silhouettes — rounded / broad bicolor / narrow wavy.
- For a very graphic living room corner, pair this duo with a Philodendron Congo Red with burgundy leaves — three foliage tones in warm shades (green / dark green-purple / burgundy) for a fully tropical composition that is very coherent.
Verdeia tips
- Maintain high humidity for both plants: this is the most important factor — in heated apartments during winter, mist 2 to 3 times a week or place a humidifier nearby; brown edges on leaves almost always indicate air that is too dry.
- Also clean the underside of Wentii leaves: the purple underside is the main decorative feature of this variety — wiping under each leaf once a month with a damp cloth preserves the intensity and brightness of this unique color.
- Repot every 1 to 2 years in spring: into slightly larger pots with fresh, well-draining substrate — properly done, repotting restarts the rapid growth of both varieties and encourages the emergence of new large leaves.
