Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the cork stopper important for the plant? The cork stopper serves two purposes: it keeps the plant stable and regulates gas exchange between the inside of the jar and the outside air. Never replace it with an airtight stopper — the plant needs oxygen. Remove it briefly once a month for a full air renewal.
Are very developed roots in the jar a sign of good health? Yes — a dense, branched root system is a sign of a well-established, healthy plant. Brown or beige roots are normal in hydroponics. However, black, soft roots with an unpleasant smell indicate stagnant water: change the water immediately and rinse the jar thoroughly.

🌿 Hydroponic Clusia • 💧 Spectacular visible root system • 🔒 Cork stopper • ☀️ Indirect light • 🎁 Ready to gift • 📏 H30 cm | Jar Ø12 cm
The Clusia in jar with stopper is a hydroponic plant presented in an elegant flattened spherical glass jar, closed with a natural cork stopper. The Clusia rosea, also called the Autograph tree, is a tropical plant native to the tropical regions of Central and South America. Its dense and developed roots plunge into the water in the jar, visible through the glass — a 360° plant spectacle as fascinating as the foliage itself.
The cork stopper holds the plant in place and regulates air exchange. Soil-free, simplified care, neat presentation. Discover it in our plant gift selection and in our collection of original plants.
Which size of hydroponic Clusia should you choose?
Clusia is available in several glass container sizes, each with a distinct aesthetic:
- Clusia spherical jar with cork stopper (this product) — flattened spherical jar, cork stopper, H30 cm | Jar Ø12 cm. The most generous size with the most developed root system.
- Clusia ball with cork stopper — spherical ball with cork stopper, same size H30 cm | Jar Ø12 cm. Rounder shape.
- Clusia open cylinder jar — open cylindrical jar without stopper, H30 cm | Jar Ø12 cm. The large open format version.
- Clusia glass tube with cork stopper — cylindrical tube with cork stopper, H15 cm | Tube Ø5 cm. The sleek minimalist version.
- Clusia jar Samoa — compact spherical jar, H10 cm | Jar Ø5 cm. The mini size.
- Clusia jar Victoria — sphere on black metal stand, H10 cm | Jar Ø5 cm. The mini sculptural version.
Why choose this size? It’s the largest in the range — its 12 cm spherical jar houses a very developed and dense root system that creates a unique and impressive plant display, far beyond the smaller sizes.
Exposure & location
The Clusia in a spherical jar enjoys bright indirect light — avoid direct sunlight which overheats the water and encourages algae growth in the jar.
- Light exposure: bright indirect light — avoid direct sunlight.
- Ideal for: coffee table, desk, console, shelf, bright bathroom.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, without sudden changes.
Its spherical shape and generous size make it a statement decorative piece — placed alone on a coffee table, it creates an immediate focal point without needing any accompaniment.
Watering & care
The cork stopper holds the plant in place and regulates gas exchange. Maintenance is simply about regularly renewing the water.
- Water level: keep the water halfway up the jar — the upper roots should remain partially aerated.
- Renewal: change the water every 2 to 3 weeks with room temperature water.
- Water type: filtered, rain, or tap water left to rest for 24 hours.
- Fertilizer: a few drops of very diluted liquid fertilizer during the water change, once a month.
- Ventilation: briefly remove the cork stopper once a month to refresh the air inside.
- Cleaning: rinse the jar with each water change to prevent algae.
If the water turns green or cloudy, change it immediately, rinse the jar thoroughly, and move the plant to a less light-exposed spot.
Decor ideas & combinations
Its generous spherical jar and dense, spectacular root system make it a statement decorative piece — a plant object that draws and holds the eye.
- Solo: place it alone on a coffee table or TV stand — its voluminous silhouette and dense visible roots create an immediate visual impact that few plants can match.
- In combination: pair it with the Monstera + Clusia duo in cylinders for a varied hydroponic arrangement with different sizes and foliage.
- As a gift: this is the most impressive size in the range — its spectacular presentation and minimal care make it a memorable plant gift for any occasion.
Verdeia advice
- The cork stopper is functional — it holds the plant in place and regulates air exchange inside the jar. Do not replace it with an airtight stopper that would block the gas exchange necessary for the plant. Remove it briefly once a month to refresh the air.
- The root system evolves over time — the visible roots continue to grow and branch out in the water. This display is one of the great decorative qualities of this generous format — the dense roots create a fascinating aquatic plant tableau that is constantly changing.
- Refresh the water regularly — every 2 to 3 weeks, remove the cork stopper, empty the water, rinse the jar and roots with fresh water, then refill halfway. Regular renewal keeps roots healthy and water clear.
- Non-toxic — Clusia poses no risk to cats, dogs, or children, making it an ideal option for pet-friendly homes seeking a decorative and impressive hydroponic plant.
