🌿 Tropical hydroponic duo • 🕳️ Perforated leaves + round leaves • 💧 Ultra-simple care • 🪴 Glass jar included • 📏 H30 cm | Jar Ø12 cm • ⚠️ Toxic to animals
This duo brings together two tropical plants with contrasting foliage in a glass jar: Monstera adansonii ("Monkey Leaf") with small, graphic perforated leaves and a trailing habit, and Clusia ("Autograph tree") with round, fleshy, glossy deep-green leaves. Grown hydroponically, their roots are immersed directly in the water — visible through the transparent glass.
Minimal care, an instantly graphic look, ready to display with nothing else needed. Ideal for a desk, shelf, or as an original plant gift. A lovely option among our plants in jars and vases and plants ready to give.
Which hydroponic duo should you choose?
Three glass-jar duos are available in our catalog — each offers a different foliage contrast:
- Monstera adansonii/Clusia duo (this product) — graphic perforated leaves + round, fleshy leaves. The most contrasting and graphic.
- Clusia/Syngonium Green duo — fleshy leaves + delicate arrow-shaped foliage. The most balanced and classic.
- Monstera adansonii/Syngonium Green duo — perforated leaves + arrow-shaped foliage. The most airy and light.
Monstera adansonii brings movement and lightness with its trailing stems, while Clusia adds structure and volume — a highly effective contrast of shapes and rhythms in the same jar.
Light & placement
This duo adapts to many spaces thanks to its compact size and minimal care — light mainly affects the growth rate and the density of the Monstera's perforations.
- Ideal exposure: moderate to bright indirect light — an east- or west-facing window, or a desk near a window.
- Avoid: direct sun that scorches the leaves and heats the water, encouraging algae.
- Temperature: 18–26 °C, with no cold drafts or direct heat sources.
- Humidity: it thrives at 50–70% humidity - occasionally mist the foliage in dry conditions.
Monstera develops more perforations with good indirect light. If new leaves emerge without holes, move the jar closer to a window.
Hydroponic care
- Water level: keep the water halfway up the jar - roots submerged, crowns above the water.
- Checking: check the level every 2 weeks and top it up with room-temperature water.
- Water change: every 2–3 months - empty and rinse the jar and roots, then fill it with fresh water.
- Water quality: filtered water or water left to stand for 24 hours - limescale accumulates on the sides and roots.
- Fertilizer: add a few drops of diluted liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer.
- Pruning: prune the Monstera stems when they become too long - the cuttings readily re-root in a new water jar.
If green algae appear on the sides, this is a sign that the jar is receiving too much direct light. Move it slightly farther from the window and clean the sides during the next water change.
Decor ideas & pairings
The transparent glass jar and visible roots make this duo a decorative arrangement in its own right - not merely two plants in a container.
- Alone on a shelf or desk: placed in front of a white wall or neutral surface, the contrast between the two types of foliage stands out immediately.
- As part of a plant display: pair it with other hydroponic arrangements from our jars and vases collection to create a cohesive arrangement with varied heights.
- As a gift: ready to display, with no repotting or accessories needed, it makes an original plant gift for a housewarming, a birthday or a farewell.
The trailing stems of Monstera adansonii will lengthen over time and gradually extend beyond the jar - an evolving decorative effect that changes from week to week.
Verdeia tips
- Change the water regularly - it's the number one rule - at least every 2–3 months, even if the water still appears clean. The buildup of minerals and organic waste eventually harms the roots without any immediately visible signs.
- Brown roots: act quickly - remove damaged roots with clean scissors, rinse thoroughly and change the water completely. Prompt action can save the plant.
- The Monstera grows faster than the Clusia - prune the Monstera stems regularly to maintain visual balance in the jar. The cuttings re-root easily in a glass of water.
- The plant crowns must never be submerged - keep the water level below the base of the stems. A crown that remains constantly in water will cause the plant to rot within a few weeks.
- Acclimatize the plants upon delivery - leave them for 48 hours in a temperate room before placing them in their final location. The first few days matter: a few simple steps can help you welcome a new plant.
- ⚠️ Toxic to animals - both Monstera adansonii and Clusia rosea are toxic if ingested by dogs and cats. Keep this duo out of animals' reach. In a household with pets, it is better to choose from the pet-friendly plants.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
