Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Ficus benjamina Kinky stay small for a long time? Yes — it is a naturally compact, slow-growing variety that can remain miniature for several years in the same pot if you regularly pinch the young shoots.
Why is my Ficus benjamina Kinky losing its leaves? Leaf drop is almost always triggered by a change of location, a draft, or a sudden temperature change — choose a stable spot when setting it up and don’t move the plant afterward.

🌿 Light green glossy foliage edged in cream • ☀️ Indirect light / Partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 🌱 Easy care • 📏 H28 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
The Ficus benjamina 'Kinky', also known as the Weeping fig, is the compact, variegated version of the classic weeping fig — the same elegant branching, the same glossy foliage, but with a delicate cream edge on each leaf and a miniature form that makes it ideal for shelves, consoles, and desks. Native to Southeast Asia, it shares the longevity and resilience of all Ficus plants. Pair it with other Ficus plants.
Like all Ficus benjamina, it is sensitive to being moved — a small amount of leaf drop may occur during installation before it settles in. As soon as it arrives, a few simple steps can help you welcome a new plant.
Light & placement
The Ficus 'Kinky' prefers bright light without direct sun — it will be denser and fuller near a window with filtered light than in deep partial shade. Above all, avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes.
- Light: indirect light to partial shade — a sheer curtain in front of an east- or north-facing window protects the variegated foliage.
- Ideal for: the end of a desk, a console, a bright shelf, or a coffee table.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, with a stable atmosphere.
- Substrate: light, well-draining potting soil — with perlite or coco coir — in a pot with drainage holes.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — let the top 1 to 2 cm dry out before watering. Empty the saucer 10 minutes later. Every interior has its ideal location, which is why it is worth choosing your plants by room.
- Drainage: essential — empty the saucer after every watering.
- Humidity: occasional light misting for clean, glossy foliage.
- Fertilizer: every 2 months in spring and summer, using a weak dose.
- Pruning: pinch out young stems to maintain a compact shape and encourage branching.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Its slender form and cream edging pair perfectly with natural materials and soft tones — it brings lightness and elegance to a plant arrangement without making it feel heavy.
- In a Ficus collection: pair it with the Ficus elastica Robusta, with its large, glossy dark green leaves — two Ficus plants, two contrasting sizes (compact and variegated vs. large and dark), and two silhouettes that complement each other within the same genus.
- In a shelf arrangement: pair it with a Pilea peperomioides and a Calathea Medallion — three compact plants, three contrasting foliage textures, and the same overall scale.
- Decorative pot: matte sand-colored ceramic, beige stoneware, or terracotta highlights the cream variegation without creating a competing contrast.
Verdeia tips
- Choose its permanent location from the start: the Ficus benjamina loses leaves each time it is moved before readjusting — once it is settled in a bright, stable location, avoid moving it.
- Turn the pot with each watering: a quarter turn with each watering ensures even growth on all sides and counteracts the natural tendency of the branches to grow toward the light.
- Stable, measured watering: a slight lack of water is less dangerous than overwatering — maintain a regular rhythm and always let the top layer dry out before watering again.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
