🌞 Bright light to partial shade • 💧 Very infrequent watering • ✨ Ultra easy to care for • 🐾 Non-toxic • 📏 H15 cm | Pot Ø11 cm
The Crassula tenelli is a compact, graphic succulent with thick, slightly downy leaves in a silvery blue-green, arranged in a tight spiral around sturdy stems. Its harmonious, minimalist silhouette makes it a decorative plant in its own right — precise, orderly, without excess.
Native to the rocky soils of southern Africa, it belongs to the large family of cacti and succulents, renowned for their resistance to drought. Its velvety foliage and minimal needs make it an excellent candidate for our low-maintenance plant selection.
Light & placement
Crassula tenelli enjoys abundant, filtered light — the more it receives, the more its characteristic silvery, velvety tones develop. It tolerates partial shade but gradually loses its compact shape in insufficient light, with stems stretching toward the light. This flexibility makes it one of the easy plants for urban apartments that adapt to almost any location.
- Ideal exposure: bright indirect light — east- or west-facing windowsill, bright living room or office.
- Tolerates: gentle direct sun in the morning, sheltered outdoors from April to October.
- Avoid: intense direct afternoon sun behind glass, which can scorch the foliage.
- Temperature: 15–28 °C, minimum 10 °C in winter.
- Substrate: very well-draining — cactus soil or universal potting soil + sand and perlite.
Every plant is unique: the shade, density and arrangement of the leaves naturally vary according to light levels and the season.
Watering & care
Like all succulents, Crassula tenelli stores water in its thick leaves — it can easily go several weeks without watering. Yellowing or softening leaves are almost always a sign of overwatering, one of the causes of yellowing leaves that crop up most often.
- Watering: very infrequent — only when the substrate is completely dry.
- Frequency: approximately every 2 weeks in summer; once a month in winter.
- Water: room-temperature water, preferably low in limescale.
- Drainage: essential — a pot with drainage holes is mandatory, and the saucer should be emptied after watering.
- Fertilizer: diluted cactus fertilizer, once every 6 to 8 weeks in spring and summer.
Every plant is unique: watering frequency naturally varies according to pot size, room temperature and the season.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
The soft texture and silvery gray-green tones of Crassula tenelli naturally complement raw materials and minimalist settings. To create a cohesive mini succulent garden, choose from our indoor succulents.
- In a mini succulent garden: pair it with a Gasteria Hybride Aurora and an Aloe Spider for a trio of distinct textures and shapes — the Crassula's spiral velvety foliage, the Gasteria's spotted leaves and the Aloe's spiny rosettes.
- On a desk or shelf: its compact H15 cm size fits easily into a small space — place it in a cream Lago decorative pot whose neutral shade highlights the silvery foliage without competing with it.
- For contrasting shapes: pair it with an Aloe with long, pointed leaves and a trailing Sedum Tornado — the Crassula's compact, soft spiral, the Aloe's upright rosette and the Sedum's hanging stems create a trio with three very different growth habits.
- In an open terrarium: place it on a bed of light gravel with a few rough stones — the contrast between the velvety leaves and the mineral substrate creates a serene, uncluttered composition. Add a white relief decorative pot to enhance the effect.
Verdeia tips
- Dust the velvety foliage with a soft brush: the slightly downy leaves collect dust that dulls their silvery appearance — a soft brush every 3 to 4 weeks is enough; a damp cloth would damage the velvety texture.
- Propagate easily in spring: a leaf or stem segment placed on dry substrate roots quickly — it is one of the easiest succulents to propagate using cutting techniques, ideal for creating mini collections.
- Avoid overly humid rooms: unlike tropical plants, the Crassula does not tolerate high ambient humidity — humid bathrooms or kitchens should be avoided to reduce the risk of stem rot.

What should I do when my plant arrives?
