Frequently Asked Questions
Is it better to train a Cissus to climb or trail? Both work very well — it depends on the decorative effect you want. On a stake or trellis, it creates a dense, graphic green screen. From a high shelf, its stems elegantly cascade down. You can also combine both on the same plant.
How do you make a Cissus bushier? Regularly pinch the tips of the stems — this is the key action. Each pinched stem produces two new shoots and thickens the growth. Without pinching, the plant produces long, thin, sparsely branched stems.

🌿 Deeply lobed shiny dark green leaves • 🌱 Climbing or trailing depending on placement • ☀️ Partial shade to indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🚀 Vigorous growth • 🐾 Non-toxic
The Cissus rhombifolia 'Ellen Danica', or Apartment Vine, is a tropical climbing plant native to the humid forests of Central and South America. Its shiny dark green deeply lobed leaves evoke an elegant and graphic vine foliage — it climbs on a stake, trails from a shelf, creating in both cases a generous and dynamic plant effect. H70 cm | Pot Ø17 cm.
Non-toxic, easy to care for. Discover it in our selection of climbing plants.
Exposure & Placement
- Ideal exposure: bright indirect light to partial shade.
- Tolerates: low light — one of the most shade-adaptable climbers.
- Avoid: direct sun that burns delicate leaves.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C, without sudden changes.
- Support: stake, trellis, or shelf edge depending on desired effect.
Install a stake or trellis to guide growth and create a spectacular climbing effect. Check our light and humidity guide to find the right spot.
Watering & Care
- Watering: moderate — let the substrate surface dry between waterings.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring-summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: pot must have drainage holes — prefers slightly dry substrate over soggy soil.
- Fertilizer: diluted liquid green plant fertilizer every 2-4 weeks in spring-summer.
- Pruning: pinch the tips to encourage branching and a bushier habit.
Easy to propagate — cut a stem and plant it directly in slightly moist substrate to get a new plant in a few weeks. See our complete watering guide to adjust frequency.
Decor Ideas & Plant Pairings
Its graphic lobed foliage creates an elegant play of shadows and light — both airy and generous depending on how it is guided.
- On a stake: guide the stems upward on a moss stake or trellis — the dense foliage creates a graphic and natural plant screen.
- Trailing: from a high shelf, its stems trail elegantly for a cascading plant effect. Find more trailing plants in our selection of trailing plants.
- In combination: pair it with a Scindapsus Trebie or a Philodendron Scandens Brasil for a trio of climbers with very contrasting foliage.
Verdeia Tips
- Pinch the tips regularly — each pinched stem produces two new shoots. This is the most effective way to get a dense and bushy plant rather than long spindly stems.
- Leaf drop after installation is normal — the Cissus gradually adapts to its new environment. Keep conditions stable and new leaves will grow back quickly.
- Repot every 2-3 years — in spring into a light, well-draining substrate. See our repotting guide for proper steps.
- 🐾 Non-toxic — Cissus is completely safe for cats and dogs. Check our plants and pets guide for more pet-friendly ideas.

What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
