🍍 Mini central decorative fruit • 🌿 Graphic lanceolate foliage • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Rosette watering • 🐾 Non-toxic • 📏 H30 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
The Bromelia Ananas (Ananas comosus var. bracteatus) is an unusual, graphic tropical plant native to South America. Its dark green lanceolate foliage, with slightly serrated edges, frames a colorful mini central fruit — yellow, orange, or pink depending on the variety and season — making it a true living decorative object.
Compact and full of character, it fits into Verdeia's tropical plants and unusual and rare plants collection, alongside other bromeliads such as Guzmania.
Light & placement
Bromelia Ananas is a light-loving plant — this is its main requirement. The more bright indirect light it receives, the longer the central fruit retains its intense colors and the denser the foliage remains. Its ideal placement depends on the balance between light and humidity indoors.
- Light: bright indirect light to bright partial shade — near an east- or southeast-facing window with filtered light.
- Placement: bright kitchen, living room, conservatory — any well-lit room without harsh direct sun.
- Outdoors: a sheltered terrace or balcony during the warmer months, protected from wind and the midday sun.
- Temperature: 18 to 26 °C — enjoys warmth and a gentle, humid atmosphere.
Place Bromelia Ananas near a bright window without direct sun — good light intensifies the color of the central fruit and slows its natural aging.
Watering & care
Bromelia Ananas is watered differently from most plants — it absorbs water mainly through its central rosette rather than through its roots. This specific watering method is easy to master and significantly limits the risk of overwatering. Watering indoor plants should be based on how quickly the substrate dries, not on the calendar.
- Central rosette: keep it slightly filled with water at all times — refresh it every 2 to 3 weeks to prevent deposits and odors.
- Substrate: water the potting soil every 8 to 10 days when the surface is dry — moderately, never excessively.
- Water: lime-free and at room temperature — limescale clogs the rosette and leaves deposits on the foliage.
- Fertilizer: diluted in the rosette water every 6 to 8 weeks in spring and summer.
Empty and refresh the rosette water regularly — water left standing for too long encourages bacterial growth and can damage the plant's center.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Bromelia Ananas's colorful central fruit makes it a natural focal point — it draws the eye and creates a warm color accent in a tropical setting.
- For a colorful bromeliad arrangement, pair Bromelia Ananas with a Guzmania and a Calathea crocata — all three plants flower or produce fruit in warm colors, creating a very lively and bright tropical trio.
- For a tropical arrangement with height, place it in the foreground in front of a Kentia or a Dypsis-Chamaedorea duo — the colorful central fruit at ground level and the upright fronds rising above create a highly structured jungle effect.
- On a console table or worktop, the central fruit becomes a colorful focal point, further enhanced by choosing a terracotta or ochre ceramic decorative pot — the warm ceramic tones echo the fruit's colors and unify the arrangement.
- For an even more original version, discover Ananas Rosita in a ceramic pot — an ornamental variety with a spectacular pink fruit, ideal paired with classic Bromelia Ananas to play with different shades.
Verdeia tips
- Keep the central rosette slightly filled with lime-free water: Bromelia Ananas absorbs most of its water and nutrients through this natural reservoir — refresh it every 2 to 3 weeks to prevent stagnation.
- Maintain a stable temperature above 18 °C: Bromelia Ananas does not tolerate temperatures below 15 °C or cold drafts — a stable spot in a heated room ensures dense foliage and a fruit that stays colorful for a long time.
- After fruiting, the plant produces offsets at the base: let them grow until they reach half the size of the mother plant, then carefully detach and repot them separately to expand your collection for free.

What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
