Frequently Asked Questions
Can you water an Asplenium in the center of its rosette? No — stagnant water in the heart of the rosette causes the young central shoots to rot; always water around the edge of the pot and let the water soak in gradually.
Is the Asplenium Parvati suitable for a bathroom? Yes, it's actually the ideal spot — the natural humidity after showers perfectly replicates its tropical habitat conditions and keeps the lacy fronds fresh and dense without extra misting.

🌿 Finely cut and lacy fronds • ☀️ Soft indirect light • 💧 Regular watering • 🌫️ Loves humidity • 🐾 Non-toxic • 🏙️ 5 sizes available
Asplenium nidus 'Parvati', also known as the bird's nest fern, is a tropical epiphytic fern native to the humid forests of Asia. Unlike other Asplenium varieties with smooth, wavy fronds, the 'Parvati' variety features soft green, finely cut and lacy foliage that forms an airy, delicate rosette - an almost lace-like effect that brings unique softness and poetry to contemporary interiors.
Non-toxic to animals, it is one of the safest and most decorative indoor ferns in the fern collection - and one of the few that is perfectly suited to low-light spaces in homes with pets.
Which Asplenium variety should you choose?
The Asplenium genus offers several very distinct silhouettes - all bird's nest ferns, but with very different textures:
- Asplenium 'Parvati' (this plant) - finely cut and lacy soft green fronds, with an airy and delicate rosette. The lightest and most poetic variety in the range.
- Asplenium Nidus - large, smooth, glossy apple-green fronds with a classic nest-shaped rosette. The choice for lush, highly glossy foliage.
- Asplenium Crispy Wave - spectacular wave-like wavy fronds and compact, glossy green foliage. The choice for highly structured wavy graphics.
- Asplenium Crissie - wavy, crisp fronds with a highly pronounced texture. The choice for an even more distinctive texture.
- Asplenium Antiquum - thicker, more rigid fronds in glossy dark green, with an upright habit. The choice for a more robust and architectural silhouette.
- Asplenium Osaka - slightly crisp, wavy fronds with a compact habit. The choice for a more compact intermediate size.
- Asplenium Campio - large, broad, wavy fronds in an XXL size. The choice for maximum volume in a large space.
Light & placement
Asplenium 'Parvati' thrives in soft, stable indirect light - its finely cut fronds are particularly sensitive to direct sun, which quickly burns and discolors them. It is one of the ferns best suited to bathrooms and spaces with high ambient humidity.
- Light: soft indirect light to partial shade - north- or east-facing window, in a bright room without direct sunlight.
- Ideal locations: bright bathroom, bedroom, dimly lit living room, office - anywhere that naturally has some humidity.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, without sudden changes or drafts.
Group Asplenium 'Parvati' with other tropical plants - plants that transpire together will naturally create a humid microclimate that benefits its delicate fronds, without requiring additional misting.
Watering & care
Asplenium 'Parvati' thrives in consistently slightly moist soil - unlike succulents or rhizomatous tropical plants, it does not tolerate being allowed to dry out completely. The balance between air humidity and watering is key to maintaining the light-humidity balance for indoor plants among tropical ferns.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times a week in spring and summer - keep the soil slightly moist at all times.
- Where to water: always around the rosette, never directly in the center - standing water in the heart of the rosette causes rot.
- Drainage: essential - pot with drainage holes and clay pebbles at the bottom.
- Humidity: ideally 60 to 70% - mist daily in dry interiors, especially in winter.
- Fertilizer: liquid fertilizer for green plants, diluted once a month in spring and summer.
Remove damaged fronds at the base as soon as they turn yellow - a yellowing frond will never turn green again and uses energy needed by new central shoots.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
The lacy lightness of Asplenium 'Parvati' makes it an ideal contrast plant - it brings softness and an airy quality among plants for low-light spaces with more structured foliage.
- For a fern arrangement with highly contrasting textures, pair Asplenium 'Parvati' with an Asplenium Crispy Wave - Parvati's finely lacy fronds contrast with Crispy Wave's large, wavy, structured fronds for a visually rich fern duo in the same green palette.
- For a very soft tropical arrangement in partial shade, pair it with a Maranta Fascinator and a Calathea warscewiczii - the lacy lightness of the Asplenium visually softens the graphic, dense foliage of both Marantaceae plants.
- In a beige ceramic or natural terracotta decorative pot, the organic, warm tones of raw ceramic complement the delicate soft green foliage - choose an untreated matte ceramic decorative pot for a natural, authentic look.
- In a bright bathroom, place Asplenium 'Parvati' on a low cabinet or shelf - natural humidity after showers precisely recreates the conditions of its tropical habitat and keeps its fine, lacy fronds healthy without the need for misting.
Verdeia tips
- Never water directly into the center of the rosette: standing water in the heart of the plant quickly causes rot in the young central shoots - always water around the edge, around the pot, allowing the water to gradually reach the roots.
- Mist daily in heated interiors: Asplenium 'Parvati' is particularly sensitive to dry air - its fine, lacy fronds turn brown at the tips much faster than the thick fronds of other Asplenium varieties, making regular misting essential in winter.
- Repot every 2 years in spring in organic-rich soil: a mixture of fern potting soil enriched with perlite ensures drainage while retaining the moisture the roots need during repotting indoor plants.
