Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the leaves of my Ctenanthe losing their silvery shine? Too much direct light or low ambient humidity are the most common causes — move it to a shaded spot and increase humidity around the plant with a tray of damp clay pebbles.
What is the difference between Ctenanthe setosa and Ctenanthe oppenheimiana? Setosa has bright, light silvery green foliage, while oppenheimiana features darker leaves with more contrasting green and silver stripes — same care, two different looks.

🐾 Non-toxic • 🌿 Silver foliage with purple underside • 🌤️ Partial shade / Indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H60 cm | Pot Ø17 cm
Ctenanthe setosa, also known as the Silver Peacock Plant, stands out from the oppenheimiana variety by its lighter foliage — silver-green on top and purple underneath — with bright highlights that catch soft light. Like all Ctenanthes, it belongs to the Marantaceae family and slightly folds its leaves at night. Native to the tropical forests of Brazil, it brings a calming tropical atmosphere to any interior. Discover our Ctenanthe collection and our Calatheas and Marantas.
Non-toxic to pets and children, it is an excellent choice for homes with cats or dogs. Our guide to creating a tropical atmosphere will give you ideas for pairing it with other species.
Exposure & Location
Ctenanthe setosa prefers the soft, filtered light of tropical understories — direct sunlight quickly burns its delicate leaves and dulls its silver highlights.
- Exposure: partial shade to indirect light — east or north-facing window ideal.
- Ideal for: living room, office, bright reading nook.
- Temperature: 18 to 26 °C, without drafts or sudden changes.
- Substrate: light, well-draining, and rich in organic matter.
Watering & Care
- Watering: moderate — keep the substrate slightly moist without excess. Use non-calcareous water at room temperature — lime deposits can leave marks on the silver leaves. Our light and humidity guide helps you find the right balance.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times per week in summer, reduce in winter.
- Humidity: enjoys a humid atmosphere — mist regularly or place the pot on a tray of moist clay pebbles.
- Fertilizer: every 3 to 4 weeks in spring and summer, diluted green plant fertilizer.
- Care: clean leaves with clear water to preserve their silver shine.
Decor Ideas & Plant Pairings
Its bright silver highlights make it an ideal accent plant in a composition of dark foliage — the contrast is immediate and very effective.
- Within the Marantaceae family: pair it with a Maranta Leuconeura and a Calathea Warscewiczii with velvety dark green leaves — the silver highlights of Ctenanthe setosa strongly contrast with the dark velvet of the Warscewiczii.
- Vs Ctenanthe oppenheimiana: place the two varieties side by side — the light silver setosa and the dark green striped oppenheimiana create a coherent duo in the same genus with two visually opposite characters.
- Decorative pot: beige ceramic, light stoneware, or a natural fiber basket perfectly match the silver tones of the foliage.
Verdeia Tips
- Non-calcareous water required: white spots on silver leaves are almost always caused by lime in tap water — use filtered water or water left 24 hours in an open container.
- Priority on ambient humidity: Ctenanthe setosa suffers more from lack of humidity than from lack of watering — a tray of moist clay pebbles under the pot is the simplest and most effective solution.
- Observe the night movement: if the leaves stand up and close properly each evening, it’s a sign your plant is healthy and in the right conditions.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
