Olea europaea – Indoor and outdoor olive tree
🌞 Full sun • 🌿 Mediterranean • 🪴 Easy care • 🏙️ Ideal for balcony & terrace • 🐾 Non-toxic
The Olea europaea, better known as the olive tree, is an iconic plant of the Mediterranean basin. With its gnarled trunk, silvery foliage, and elegant silhouette, it symbolizes peace, wisdom, and longevity.
Compact, bright, and resilient, it fits well both in bright interiors and sunny outdoor spaces. It’s the perfect plant to recreate a Mediterranean corner on an urban balcony or a contemporary terrace.
Exposure & placement
- Exposure: full sun, at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day.
- Ideal on a balcony, terrace, windowsill, or bright patio.
- Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window for maximum light.
- Enjoys warmth and light but fears frost in pots (bring indoors below −2 °C).
Verdeia tip: pair your olive tree with lavenders, rosemary, or aromatic herbs to create a mini Southern garden.
Watering & maintenance
- Watering: moderate — allow the soil to dry between waterings.
- Substrate: light and well-draining (mix of potting soil, sand, and perlite).
- Ideal temperature: between 10 and 28 °C; bring indoors if temperatures drop below −2 °C.
- Pruning: light after flowering to maintain a balanced silhouette.
- In winter, reduce watering and favor a bright, cool location.
Water more in summer, but avoid water stagnating in the saucer: the olive tree hates excess.
Benefits & symbolism
- Universal symbol of peace, prosperity, and longevity.
- Bright silvery foliage that beautifully reflects light.
- Robust, durable, and drought-resistant plant.
- Purifies the air and brings an authentic Mediterranean touch to any space.
Its silvery foliage and rustic texture create a harmonious contrast with urban materials like stone, light wood, or metal.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
- Combine it with a Phormium ‘Rubra Nana’ for a graphic and colorful contrast.
- Pair with a Carex ‘Ice Dance’ to soften its silvery lines.
- Complement with lavender, thyme, rosemary, or sage for a Southern ambiance.
- Perfectly suited for decor in terracotta, light wood, or natural concrete.
Verdeia Tips
- Expose your olive tree to as much sun as possible, even in the city.
- Use a well-draining soil to avoid excess moisture.
- Bring it indoors in winter if temperatures drop below zero.
- Clean the leaves from time to time to maintain their silvery shine.
The olive tree is a faithful companion that improves with time: the older it gets, the more beautiful it becomes.

Our Verdeia commitments
FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
