Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Pilea Peperomioides produce baby plants? Yes, that's one of its features — it regularly produces offshoots at the base called baby Pilea or stolons. These offshoots can be detached and replanted in a new pot or kokedama as soon as they reach a few centimeters.
Can a kokedama be placed instead of hung? Yes — place it on a saucer, a wooden stand, or a bowl of pebbles. It's a more understated display that works just as well as hanging. The advantage: easier to water and rotate regularly.

Kokodama — a Japanese technique
Kokodama is a Japanese growing technique — the plant grows in a compact ball of substrate wrapped in coconut fiber, suspended or placed directly on a surface. No pot, no decorative pot — the ball is both the container and the decorative element.
- Natural: coconut fiber and jute, 100% natural materials.
- Versatile: can be hung from the ceiling or placed on a saucer or stand.
- Decorative: the textured coconut ball contrasts with the shiny foliage of the Pilea.
Other plants are available in kokodama in our catalog — Monstera Minima, Jungle Mix, Maranta Mix and more.
Light & location
- Ideal light: bright indirect light — near an east- or west-facing window.
- Avoid: direct sun that burns the delicate round leaves, too much shade that slows growth.
- Temperature: 15–25 °C (59–77 °F).
- Hanging: hang on a ceiling hook or rod — allow clear space around so the foliage can grow freely.
The Pilea turns its leaves toward the light — rotate the kokodama a quarter turn weekly for even growth and well-distributed leaves all around the ball.
Watering & care
- Method: dip the ball in a container of water for 10 to 15 minutes, let it drain well before rehanging.
- Frequency: when the coconut ball feels light and dry on the surface — about once a week in summer.
- Water: preferably non-calcareous water — filtered or rainwater.
- Fertilizer: add a few drops of liquid fertilizer to the soaking water once a month in spring and summer.
The coconut ball is light when it needs water and heavy when well hydrated — a very practical natural indicator. See our hanging plants guide for more decorative hanging ideas.
Decor ideas
The Kokodama Pilea adds a natural and handcrafted touch to a plant-based decor.
- Hanging alone: hung near a bright window, its large bright green round leaves shine in the light.
- In a hanging arrangement: combine it with other kokodamas at different heights for a very decorative suspended forest effect.
- Placed on a surface: place it on a saucer or wooden stand for a simple, natural Japanese style.
The jute rope can be shortened or lengthened depending on the desired height — a practical advantage to adapt the hanging to your space.
Verdeia tips
- Water by soaking, not spraying — pouring water on the coconut ball wets the surface without hydrating the core. Soaking in water for 10-15 minutes is the only effective method to properly rehydrate the substrate.
- Drain well before rehanging — a waterlogged ball drips and can damage the floor or furniture below. Let it drain over a sink for a few minutes before rehanging.
- Rotate regularly — the Pilea orients its leaves toward the light. A weekly quarter turn ensures symmetrical growth and beautiful foliage all around. The Pilea regularly produces offshoots at the base — see our propagation guide to multiply them easily.
- 🐾 Non-toxic — Pilea Peperomioides is completely safe for dogs and cats.

How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
