🐾 Non-toxic • 🪴 Compact rosette with shiny sticky droplets • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Regular watering with non-calcareous water • 📏 H12 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
Drosera aliciae, also called Cape Sundew, is a small carnivorous plant native to South Africa — its compact rosette of leaves covered with fine shiny sticky droplets naturally traps insects to compensate for the nutrient-poor soil of its original habitat. It is one of the most robust Droseras and well-suited for indoor cultivation. Also discover our other carnivorous plants to create a complete carnivorous garden.
Its care is specific but simple once you know the basic rules — non-calcareous water is mandatory, substrate without fertilizer, constant humidity. Find our complete guide to carnivorous plants to master all these points.
Exposure & location
Drosera aliciae likes bright light and warmth without direct burning sun — a bright and humid atmosphere close to that of its natural African habitat.
- Exposure: bright indirect light — gentle morning or late afternoon sun is acceptable.
- Ideal for: east or southeast-facing windowsill, bright terrarium.
- Temperature: 18 to 28 °C in summer, never below 10 °C.
- Substrate: special carnivorous plant mix — blonde peat and sand or perlite, without fertilizer.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular — the substrate must remain constantly moist. Always keep a water reservoir in the saucer, especially in summer. Rainwater, demineralized or osmosis water is mandatory — calcium kills carnivorous plants. Our complete guide to carnivorous plants details all these specific rules.
- Fertilizer: none — the plant gets its nutrients from captured insects; fertilizer in the substrate would be fatal.
- Winter rest: slightly reduce watering and keep in a cool, bright room.
- Maintenance: remove dry leaves at the base to keep a compact rosette.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its shimmering pink foliage and shiny droplets give it an almost mineral and precious look — a plant that fascinates as much by its aesthetics as by its mechanism.
- In a carnivorous garden: pair it with a Dionaea muscipula (Venus flytrap), a Sarracenia, and a Nepenthes — four carnivorous plants, four different trapping mechanisms, same logic of watering with non-calcareous water.
- In a terrarium: pair it with a Tillandsia — two plants with high humidity needs, two contrasting graphic forms, a coherent composition of botanical curiosities.
- Decorative pot: a plastic or ceramic pot with a deep saucer is essential to maintain the permanent water reservoir needed for its care.
Verdeia tips
- Non-calcareous water absolutely mandatory: this is the number one rule for carnivorous plants — even a single watering with tap water can be enough to kill them. Use exclusively rainwater, demineralized, or osmosis water.
- Never feed manually: no need to catch insects to feed it — it naturally attracts and traps small gnats thanks to its sticky droplets, and producing too much digestion exhausts it.
- Always keep a water reservoir in the saucer: Drosera must never dry out completely — 1 to 2 cm of non-calcareous water permanently in the saucer is the simplest method to maintain constant humidity.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
