Frequently Asked Questions
Can Rhipsalis burchellii bloom indoors? Yes, with stable partial shade and slightly reduced watering in autumn, it produces small delicate white or cream flowers in winter — an unexpected decorative bonus for such a discreet cactus.
How can I tell if my Rhipsalis is lacking water? Its cylindrical stems wrinkle slightly and lose their firmness when the plant is thirsty — this is the sign it’s time to water, and the stems regain their firmness within a few hours after a good watering.

🌿 Cylindrical trailing stems • ☀️ Partial shade to shade • 💧 Low to moderate watering • 🌱 Very easy • 🐾 Non-toxic
Native to the tropical forests of Brazil, Rhipsalis burchellii is a spineless epiphytic cactus that naturally grows on tree branches in shaded understories — unlike desert cacti. Its slender, light green cylindrical stems cascade delicately and can reach several dozen centimeters, creating one of the most original airy and minimalist green curtains in our trailing plants collection and plants for shade and partial shade.
Which variety of Rhipsalis to choose?
Two varieties of Rhipsalis are available in our catalog, each with distinct shapes:
- Rhipsalis burchellii (this plant) — slender, light green cylindrical stems cascading delicately (H20 cm | Pot Ø12 cm). The finest and most airy version.
- Rhipsalis 'Coral Rojo' — trailing flattened stems with coral-red tinted tips, larger size (H25 cm | Pot Ø17 cm). The most colorful version.
Light & location
- Light: partial shade to low light — unlike desert cacti, Rhipsalis avoids direct sun which burns its delicate stems. It is one of the few succulents suited for low-light rooms.
- Ideal: hanging in living room, bathroom, office, high shelf, or north-facing windowsill.
- Temperature: 15 to 25 °C, without sudden changes.
- Substrate: light and well-draining — special epiphytic cactus mix (potting soil, bark, perlite).
Watering & care
- Watering: low to moderate — allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Unlike desert cacti from our cactus and succulents collection, the epiphytic Rhipsalis does not like extreme dryness — its stems wrinkle and lose firmness if the substrate stays dry too long.
- Frequency: every 8 to 10 days in spring-summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage holes and well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: prefers 50–60% humidity — mist occasionally.
- Fertilizer: every 2 to 3 months in spring-summer, liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
- Trailing plant trio for shade: pair it with a Ceropegia woodii with small heart-shaped leaves and a Dischidia imbricata with overlapping tile-like leaves — three very different trailing stem textures that all tolerate partial shade for an original trailing plant arrangement.
- Hanging: its freely spreading stems from a height of 60 to 80 cm create an airy and minimalist green curtain — perfect in a bathroom or a dim corner of the living room.
- Ideal pot: matte white ceramic or terracotta to highlight the delicate light green of the stems — neutral and warm tones match the natural and epiphytic character of this species.
Verdeia tips
- Don’t confuse it with a desert cactus: Rhipsalis is a tropical epiphytic cactus that needs a bit more water and humidity than a typical succulent — a substrate that dries out completely for several weeks weakens the stems.
- Wait for flowers in winter: with good partial shade exposure and slightly reduced watering in autumn, it produces small delicate white or cream flowers in winter — an unexpected decorative bonus for a cactus.
- Propagate easily: cut an 8 to 10 cm stem, let it callous for 1 to 2 days, and plant in slightly moist substrate — propagating plants by cuttings is simple with this species.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
