🤍 Creamy-white variegated foliage • 🌑 Tolerates low light • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H40 cm | Pot Ø19 cm • 🌬️ Air-purifying • ⚠️ Toxic to animals
The Aglaonema 'White Kiwi', also known as the Chinese Evergreen, is a tropical plant native to the undergrowth of Southeast Asia. Its broad, lance-shaped dark green leaves, marked with large, bright creamy-white variegation, create graphic, light foliage - particularly effective for brightening dim corners.
Compact H40 cm size | Pot Ø19 cm, sturdy, forgiving of missed waterings and able to thrive in low light - it is one of the best plants for low-light spaces. It also helps purify the air. Please note: toxic if ingested by animals.
Which Aglaonema variety should you choose?
Aglaonemas are primarily distinguished by the colour and intensity of their variegation. Here are the most distinct profiles among the Aglaonemas:
- Aglaonema 'White Kiwi' (this plant) - broad creamy-white variegation on a dark green background, compact size with a delivered height of approximately 40 cm. The lightest and brightest in dark spaces.
- Aglaonema 'Jungle Silver' - large, highly contrasting silver areas, H60 cm size. The most graphic and contrasting.
- Aglaonema Silver Bay - wide silver central stripe, elegant growth habit. The most classic.
- Aglaonema Spring Red - pink, red and green foliage, H60 cm size. The only variety with warm colours.
- Aglaonema B.J. Freedman - large dark green leaves, imposing H70 cm size. The largest.
White Kiwi is the most compact plant in our collection - ideal for spaces where other Aglaonemas would be too large. All Aglaonemas share the same easy-care requirements.
Light & placement
The Aglaonema 'White Kiwi' naturally grows beneath the tropical canopy - it tolerates low light while retaining its graphic foliage, a rare quality for such a decorative plant.
- Ideal exposure: moderate to low indirect light - a few meters from a window, in an interior office, or in a hallway.
- Tolerates: partial shade, spaces without direct natural light.
- To avoid: direct sun, which burns the white areas, especially sensitive because they lack protective chlorophyll.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C - sensitive to cold. Below 15 °C, growth stops.
- Substrate: light universal potting soil with a little perlite.
Caution: unlike silver Aglaonemas, the White Kiwi's cream-white areas are particularly sensitive to direct sun. A sheer curtain or a location away from the window is preferable.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate - allow the surface of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.
- Frequency: once a week in spring and summer, every 10–15 days in winter.
- Water: water at room temperature, filtered or left to stand for 24 hours if possible.
- Humidity: thrives at 50–70% humidity - mist occasionally in very dry conditions.
- Fertilizer: liquid fertilizer for green plants, diluted by half, once a month in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their shine.
Aglaonema readily forgives missed waterings - when in doubt, wait rather than overwater. Excess water is its main cause of decline.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
The White Kiwi brings brightness to places that lack it - its cream-white areas reflect light and visually enliven dark corners.
- In a low-light corner: its compact size and light foliage make it an ideal plant for shelves and furniture away from windows.
- In an arrangement: pair it with a Jungle Silver or a Zamioculcas for a highly effective cream white/silver/dark green contrast.
- Ideal Pot: matte black or anthracite ceramic - the dark/white contrast is striking and enhances the foliage's graphic effect.
Its compact size, D19 x H40 cm, makes it particularly suitable for small spaces - windowsills, shelves, or desk corners - where the H60 cm versions would be too bulky.
Verdeia Tips
- Yellow leaves: excess water first — always empty the saucer after watering and let the substrate dry out more. In a pot, yellowing is almost always linked to stagnant moisture.
- Variegation turning green: not enough light — if new leaves emerge greener and less white, move the plant to a slightly brighter location without direct sun. The color will return on the next growth.
- Burnt white areas: too much sun — areas without chlorophyll are particularly sensitive. Brown spots on the white parts indicate exposure to overly direct light. Move it away from the window or add a sheer curtain.
- Protect it from the cold — below 15 °C, growth stops and spots appear on the foliage. Move it away from poorly insulated windows in winter.
- Repot in spring without rushing — Aglaonema prefers to be slightly root-bound. Repot only when the roots emerge from the bottom of the pot, every 2–3 years.
- ⚠️ Toxic to animals and humans — contains irritating calcium oxalates. Keep it out of reach of cats, dogs and young children. In a household with pets, it is best to choose from the plants and pets that are compatible.
