🐾 Non-toxic • 🌸 Soft pink trumpets with yellow throats in summer • ☀️ Full sun • 🐝 Attracts bees and butterflies • 📏 H17 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
Campsis 'Pink Panther', also known as the pink trumpet vine, is a spectacular climbing plant from a European horticultural selection — its large soft pink trumpet-shaped flowers with pale yellow throats bloom all summer on lush, deeply divided green foliage. It can reach 3 to 4 meters at maturity against a wall, pergola or trellis. Pair it with climbing plants and plants for sunny balconies.
Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees and butterflies — a valuable boost for biodiversity on a balcony or urban terrace. Pair it in full sun with plants from a Mediterranean urban garden.
Light & placement
Campsis 'Pink Panther' enjoys warmth and full sun — a south- or west-facing position ensures abundant flowering and intense colors. It climbs naturally and needs a sturdy support from the moment it is installed.
- Light: full sun — south- or west-facing is ideal.
- Ideal for: walls, trellises, pergolas, balcony railings or sunny fences.
- Use: perfect for dressing up a balcony, terrace or small urban garden.
- Substrate: well-drained garden soil or quality all-purpose potting soil.
Watering & care
- Watering: water regularly during growth and flowering — keep the soil cool and moist without waterlogging it. In a pot on a balcony, water more often than in open ground, especially during summer heatwaves. Pair it with a lavender for a cohesive Mediterranean arrangement with the same care requirements.
- Fertilizer: a light application of organic fertilizer in spring encourages summer flowering.
- Pruning: in late winter, cut the stems back to 2 to 3 buds to encourage growth — during the first two years, light pruning promotes branching.
- Support: provide a sturdy stake or trellis to guide its vigorous climbing stems.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Its soft pink flowering contrasts beautifully with deep green and silvery foliage — it brings color and movement to vertical surfaces that often lack vegetation.
- In a Mediterranean living wall: pair it with an evergreen climbing Hedera helix and a Clematis for a dense, flowering and structured plant wall — three climbers, three staggered flowering periods, and almost year-round coverage.
- In a balcony arrangement: plant it in a large container with silvery Festuca glauca and a Helleborus for winter interest — an arrangement that covers every season.
- Decorative pot: a large terracotta container or a stone-fiber pot provides the stability needed to support its vigorous stems.
Verdeia tips
- Install a sturdy support from the start: Campsis becomes very vigorous at maturity — provide a trellis or structure capable of supporting several kilos of stems and foliage, ideally secured before planting.
- Water generously in summer: in a pot on a sunny balcony, the substrate dries out very quickly during hot weather — daily watering may be necessary in July-August to maintain flowering.
- Protect the base in winter: in regions with cold winters, mulch the base of the plant with a thick layer of mulch — Campsis is hardy, but its roots in a pot are more vulnerable to frost than those in the ground.
