🌸 Pale pink flowers in June • 🌿 Small dark green evergreen leaves • ✂️ Can be trimmed like boxwood • 🪨 Tolerates lime up to pH 7.5 • ❄️ Hardy down to -20 °C • 🪴 Two sizes: Pot Ø17 or Ø23 cm
Rhododendron Bloombux® Light Pink is a dwarf rhododendron with the appearance of boxwood: small evergreen leaves, a compact rounded habit, and it can be trimmed in the same way. Horticultural selection from Europe (Germany), developed through the INKARHO program, it is one of the few shrubs in our flowering plants collection that can serve as boxwood while flowering every summer.
In June, the ball is covered with small clusters of pale pink, lightly scented flowers, sometimes speckled with a deeper pink. The rest of the year, its dark green, glossy foliage retains a neat shape. Its growth is slow: it reaches around 50 to 75 cm in ten years.
Which flowering evergreen shrub should you choose?
Six evergreen shrubs from the catalog, flowering in different seasons:
- Rhododendron Bloombux® Light Pink (this plant) — pale pink flowers in June, small dark green leaves. The softest, can be trimmed into a ball like boxwood.
- Rhododendron Bloombux® Magenta — intense pink flowers in June, small dark green leaves. The most colorful, can be trimmed into a ball like boxwood.
- Camellia 'Nuccio's Gem' — large, fully double pure white flowers, from late winter to spring. The most spectacular, for acidic soil.
- Laurustinus 'Eve Price' — bright pink buds and pale pink flowers from November to March. The most floriferous in winter.
- Laurustinus — white flowers from November to March. The tallest, for a flowering hedge.
- California lilac 'Victoria' on a standard — intense blue flowers in spring, on a 90 cm stem. The only blue one, for full sun.
Bloombux blooms when the others have finished: paired with a laurustinus, it extends a balcony's flowering season into summer.
Exposure & placement
It grows in sun as well as partial shade, but prefers morning sun and some shade during the hottest hours: this is where flowering is most abundant and the foliage looks its best.
- Exposure: partial shade or morning sun, sheltered from the hot afternoon sun.
- Location: east-facing balcony, entrance, path border, low hedge, railing planter.
- Hardiness in a pot: down to -20 °C - it stays outdoors in winter.
- Soil type: moist, humus-rich and well-drained, acidic to slightly alkaline (up to pH 7.5).
A pair of balls on either side of an entrance door replaces classic boxwoods, with pink blooms as a bonus.
Watering & care
Like all rhododendrons, it has fine, shallow roots that must never dry out: testing the substrate with your finger in summer indicates when to water, and a rich, well-draining substrate prevents stagnant water, which it does not tolerate well.
- Watering: regular - keep the substrate consistently moist in spring and summer, watering less often in winter without letting it dry out.
- Water: preferably rainwater; tap water is suitable if it is not very hard.
- Fertilizer: rhododendron fertilizer in spring.
- Pruning: immediately after flowering, in July, to maintain its ball shape - later pruning would remove the following year's buds.
- Repotting: every two to three years, in spring, into a wider pot.
A pine-bark mulch on top of the pot keeps in the coolness and moisture its shallow roots need.
Decorating ideas & plant combinations
Its neat shape structures a composition like a boxwood, particularly on a partial-shade balcony where flowering shrubs are rare.
- For late-winter blooms at its base, plant a Lenten rose 'Double Ellen Pink' — its pale pink flowers from February to April herald those of the Bloombux.
- For contrasting foliage, place a Leucothoe 'Curly Gold' next to it - its curly golden foliage brightens up the ball's dark green.
- To dress the edge of the pot, plant a Carex 'Ice Dance' — its fine, trailing leaves soften the rounded shape.
- To enhance the pot, choose the Capi Nature Skin anthracite pot — a simple pot highlights the rounded shape, like a trimmed boxwood.
Arranged in a long planter, several Bloombux plants form a low evergreen hedge that flowers in June.
Verdeia tips
- Prune just after flowering: Bloombux forms the following year's buds as early as summer. Pruning in autumn or spring removes the June flowering.
- Replace your diseased boxwood: it is not affected by the box tree moth, which only attacks boxwood, and it can be pruned in the same way. If an old boxwood has left yellowing leaves in the planter, replace the potting soil before planting.
- Keep it out of reach of animals: like all rhododendrons, it is toxic to dogs, cats and horses if ingested.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
