🌺 Intense pink flowers in June • 🌿 Small evergreen dark green leaves • ✂️ Pruned like a boxwood • 🪨 Tolerates lime up to pH 7.5 • ❄️ Hardy down to -20 °C • 🪴 Two sizes: Pot Ø17 or Ø23 cm
Rhododendron Bloombux® Magenta is a dwarf rhododendron with a boxwood-like habit, whose flowering is the most intense of the entire Bloombux range. Horticultural selection from Europe (Germany), developed through the INKARHO program, it is one of the hardy plants in the catalog and remains neat and evergreen in a ball shape all year round.
In June, the ball is covered with small clusters of lightly scented, intense pink flowers that attract bees. The rest of the year, its small, dark green, satin-finished leaves retain a compact shape. Its growth is slow: it reaches approximately 75 cm in ten years.
Which flowering evergreen shrub should you choose?
Six evergreen shrubs from the catalog, flowering in different seasons:
- Rhododendron Bloombux® Magenta (this plant) — intense pink flowers in June, small dark green leaves. The most colorful, pruned into a ball like a boxwood.
- Rhododendron Bloombux® Light Pink — pale pink flowers in June, small dark green leaves. The softest, pruned into a ball like a boxwood.
- Camellia 'Nuccio's Gem' — large, fully double pure white flowers from late winter to spring. The most spectacular, in ericaceous soil.
- Laurustinus 'Eve Price' — bright pink buds and pale pink flowers from November to March. The most floriferous in winter.
- Laurustinus — white flowers from November to March. The tallest, for a flowering hedge.
- California lilac 'Victoria' on a standard — intense blue flowers in spring, on a 90 cm standard. The only blue one, for full sun.
Bloombux bloom when the others have finished: paired with a laurustinus, they extend a balcony's flowering into summer.
Exposure & placement
It grows in sun as well as partial shade, but prefers non-scorching sun: facing east, it receives morning light that encourages buds, without the afternoon heat that dulls the flowers.
- Exposure: partial shade or morning sun, sheltered from the intense afternoon sun.
- Location: east-facing balcony, entrance, path border, low hedge, railing planter.
- Hardiness in a pot: down to -20 °C — it can remain outdoors in winter.
- Soil type: moist, humus-rich and well-drained, acidic to slightly alkaline (up to pH 7.5).
Alternated with Bloombux Light Pink in a low hedge, it creates a gradient of pink shades on the same foliage in June.
Watering & care
Its fine, shallow roots must never dry out: testing the substrate with your finger in summer indicates when to water, and a few days away in summer requires preparation, because a pot that dries out in July compromises the following year's buds.
- Watering: regular — keep the substrate consistently moist in spring and summer, watering less frequently in winter without allowing it to dry out.
- Water: rainwater preferably; tap water is suitable if it is not very hard.
- Fertilizer: rhododendron fertilizer, in spring.
- Pruning: just after flowering, in July, to maintain its rounded shape — pruning later would remove the following year's buds.
- Repotting: every two to three years, in spring, in a wider pot.
A layer of pine bark mulch on top of the pot retains the moisture its shallow roots need.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its neat shape and vivid flowers structure a composition, complemented by balcony plants suited to the same exposure.
- For late-winter blooms at its base, plant a Lenten rose 'Dacaya' — its pink flowers streaked with burgundy, from February to April, herald those of the Bloombux.
- For foliage contrast, place a Leucothoe 'Little Flames' next to it — its red tips in winter take over from the pink flowers.
- To dress the edge of the pot, plant a Carex 'Ice Dance' — its cream edging brightens the ball's dark green.
- To enhance the pot, choose the Capi Nature Groove taupe pot — a neutral, warm shade that lets the flowers' intense pink take center stage.
A pair of balls on either side of an entrance door marks the threshold all year round, with bright pink flowering in June.
Verdeia tips
- Prune just after flowering: Bloombux forms the following year's buds from summer onwards. Pruning in autumn or spring removes the June flowering.
- Give it as a gift in bud in spring: delivered before flowering, it blooms at the recipient's home and lasts much longer than a bouquet. There is a plant for every occasion, according to the meaning of plants to give as gifts.
- Keep it out of reach of animals: like all rhododendrons, it is toxic to dogs, cats and horses if ingested.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
