🐾 Non-toxic • 🪴 Red and green hanging pitchers • 🌞 Bright light without direct sun • 💧 Moist substrate + high humidity • 📏 H17 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
Nepenthes 'Gaya', also known as the tropical pitcher plant, is a hybrid resulting from a cross between Nepenthes khasiana and Nepenthes ventricosa, native to Southeast Asia. Its elongated pitchers in red and green tones naturally hang beneath the leaves — a spectacular silhouette unlike any other carnivorous plant. Combine it with other carnivorous plants to create a complete carnivorous garden.
Unlike other carnivorous plants, it does not need calcareous soil but does require high ambient humidity — it is a tropical rainforest plant. Like all carnivorous plants, it has specific needs.
Light & placement
Nepenthes 'Gaya' thrives in bright light without direct sun — high ambient humidity is essential for its pitchers to develop properly. The more humid the air, the more beautiful the pitchers.
- Light: bright indirect light to bright partial shade — an east- or north-facing window is ideal.
- Ideal for: a hanging planter, a bright windowsill, a bright bathroom, or a conservatory.
- Temperature: 18 to 28 °C; avoid cold drafts.
- Substrate: a mix of sphagnum moss, light peat and perlite, without fertilizer.
Watering & care
- Water type (mandatory): exclusively rainwater or demineralized water — keep the substrate constantly moist without excess standing water. Sarracenia × Catesbaei follows the same watering principle.
- Ambient humidity: 60 to 80% is essential to encourage pitcher development — lightly mist the foliage on dry days or place it in a naturally humid room.
- Fertilizer: none — Nepenthes feeds on the insects it captures in its pitchers.
- Pruning: remove dry pitchers to encourage the growth of new ones.
- Repotting: every 1 to 2 years in spring, using fresh, airy substrate.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Its hanging pitchers create a spectacular suspended silhouette — placed up high, it lets its pitchers hang freely and turns every head. A reliable choice for a plant corner.
- In a carnivorous collection: pair it with a Dionaea muscipula with toothed traps and a Drosera aliciae with glistening droplets — three different capture mechanisms, creating a fascinating collection for lovers of unusual botany.
- In a hanging duo: pair it with Epiphyllum anguliger with trailing, toothed stems — two hanging plants with very different graphic silhouettes and the same need for high humidity.
- Decorative pot: a lightweight matte ceramic pot or a natural-fiber hanger highlights the cascade of colorful pitchers without weighing down the arrangement.
Verdeia tips
- Ambient humidity is the priority: Nepenthes suffers more from air that is too dry than from insufficient watering — mist the foliage 2 to 3 times a week or place it in a bright bathroom to maintain the 60 to 80% humidity it needs.
- Place it up high: its pitchers naturally develop downward — placed on a high shelf or hung up, they can hang freely and reach their full size.
- Lime-free water is essential: like all carnivorous plants, limescale in tap water is fatal — use only rainwater or demineralized water.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
