Sarracenia × Catesbaei
🌞 Sun / Partial shade • 💧 Substrate always moist • 🪴 Easy care • 🪰 Graphic carnivorous plant
The Sarracenia × Catesbaei is a spectacular natural hybrid (cross between Sarracenia flava and S. purpurea), appreciated for its red-green colorful pitchers and sculptural form. Ideal for creating a decorative mini-marsh on a balcony, terrace, or very bright windowsill.
Easy to live with and amazing to observe, it naturally captures small insects. Supplied in Ø12 cm with an approximate height of 23 cm, it is a perfect plant to bring a touch of botanical curiosity to your urban jungle.
Exposure & location
The Sarracenia × Catesbaei loves abundant light: direct sun for much of the day or very bright partial shade. It grows very well outdoors (balcony/terrace) from April to October; indoors, reserve a full sun window for it.
- Exposure: direct sun or bright partial shade.
- Ideal: balcony planter, table near a bay window, sunny windowsill.
- Temperature: from 5 to 28 °C (tolerates cool during winter dormancy).
- Substrate: poor and acidic mix (blond peat + perlite), no fertilizer.
Verdeia tip: the more light it receives, the more its pitchers color — aim for 4–6 hours of direct sun per day.
Watering & care
- Water: only rainwater or demineralized water.
- Substrate moisture: keep always moist; leave 1–2 cm of water in the saucer during the growing season.
- Winter (dormancy): reduce water level, keep substrate just moist in cool conditions (5–10 °C).
- Fertilizer: none — unnecessary and harmful to roots.
- Pruning: remove brown/dried pitchers to stimulate new growth.
- Repotting: every 1–2 years in spring with fresh peat/perlite mix.
Place a stable and opaque saucer: it limits evaporation and keeps water fresh longer.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its graphic form immediately draws the eye on a balcony table, a console near a window, or a shelf in direct light. Combine it with other carnivores for a contemporary “marsh” corner.
- To combine with: Dionaea muscipula, Sarracenia psittacina, Drosera for an intriguing botanical scene.
- Ideal pot: matte ceramic or beige stoneware; use a decorative pot without a closed bottom to keep the saucer accessible.
- Ambiance: perfect in a natural urban decor, mineral materials (stone, terrazzo) and light wood.
A waterproof tray with some pebbles creates a very decorative “marsh edge” effect while increasing humidity.
Verdeia tips
- Never use hard tap water: prefer rainwater or demineralized water.
- More sun = more intense colors on the pitchers.
- Avoid feeding: the plant hunts on its own.
- A deep container with a saucer facilitates watering by capillarity.
- Cold period (5–10 °C) recommended in winter for beneficial dormancy.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
