🐾 Non-toxic • 🌺 Spectacular colorful bracts • 🌿 Graphic rosette foliage • ☀️ Indirect light / Partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H55 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
Vriesea 'Elan' is a tropical bromeliad native to Central and South America, remarkable for its spectacular colorful bracts that emerge from the heart of its rosette of dark green, ribbon-like graphic leaves. Like all bromeliads, it stands out for being watered in the heart of the rosette rather than in the substrate. A reliable choice among tropical plants.
Its bloom lasts a long time — the bracts remain colorful for several weeks. It is also an original indoor gift all year round, a perfect idea for giving a plant.
Light & placement
Vriesea 'Elan' thrives in indirect light to partial shade — it appreciates good brightness without direct rays and particularly enjoys naturally humid rooms.
- Light: soft indirect light — an east- or north-facing windowsill is ideal.
- Ideal for: bright bathroom, kitchen, living room, office, shelf.
- Temperature: 18 to 26 °C, stable and away from cold drafts.
- Substrate: light, well-draining potting soil enriched with organic matter.
Watering & care
- Watering the rosette: pour a little limescale-free water directly into the heart of the rosette, refreshing it every week — this is the technique specific to bromeliads, which absorb water through their leaves. This simple care routine makes it an ideal plant for a green relaxation corner.
- Watering the substrate: moderate — keep the potting soil slightly moist without excess.
- Humidity: regularly mist limescale-free water onto the foliage to recreate a tropical atmosphere.
- Fertilizer: apply diluted liquid fertilizer monthly during the growing season.
- After flowering: remove the faded bracts and keep the offsets at the base for repotting — the mother plant flowers only once and then produces offsets.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Its colorful bracts emerge vertically from the heart of the rosette — a unique graphic and floral silhouette that immediately attracts attention.
- As part of a bromeliad collection: pair it with a Guzmania and the Tillandsia LED — three bromeliads, three very different expressions of the family, the same watering approach, and a cohesive, original arrangement.
- As a floral duo: pair it with an Anthurium White with white bracts — the Vriesea's colorful bracts versus the Anthurium's white bracts, two spectacularly flowering plants from two different genera.
- Decorative pot: light-colored ceramic, beige stoneware, or a natural-fiber decorative pot highlights the rosette's graphic silhouette without competing with the colorful bracts.
Verdeia tips
- Water the heart, not the substrate: Vriesea primarily absorbs water through its leaves — pour limescale-free water into the central rosette every week and otherwise keep the substrate just slightly moist.
- Keep the offsets after flowering: the mother plant flowers only once and then gradually declines — the offsets that grow at the base are new plants ready to bloom; repot them separately in spring.
- Place it up high: set on a shelf or console, the colorful bracts are visible from every angle and the graphic rosette can be fully appreciated at eye level.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.

Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
