🌿 Dark green foliage with dark marbled patterns • ☀️ Tolerates low light • 💧 Very little watering • 🌱 Ultra easy • 📏 H35 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
Sansevieria 'Black Coral', also known as mother-in-law's tongue, stands out from other Sansevierias with its dark green foliage and highly contrasting, wavy marbled patterns — a dark, elaborate graphic look that gives it a distinctive, instantly recognizable character. Native to the arid regions of West Africa, it shares the exceptional resilience of all Sansevierias. Combine it with other Sansevierias.
Its broad, wavy leaves with a flared growth habit also visually distinguish it from varieties with strictly upright leaves — a more dynamic and organic silhouette. Its tolerance of low light makes it one of the best plants for dark rooms.
Light & placement
Sansevieria 'Black Coral' tolerates low light perfectly — this is one of its main strengths. It adapts to conditions in which most graphic plants would decline.
- Light: low to indirect light — tolerates shade, avoid complete darkness.
- Ideal for: office, shelf, bedside table, bathroom, dimly lit hallway.
- Temperature: 15 to 30 °C, tolerates fluctuations without any problem.
- Soil: very well-draining — potting soil for cacti and succulents with sand or perlite.
Watering & care
- Watering: very little — let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Our finger test is particularly suitable for this plant.
- Frequency: every 3 to 4 weeks in spring and summer, every 6 to 8 weeks in winter.
- Drainage: essential — a pot with drainage holes, very well-draining soil, and a saucer emptied after watering.
- Fertilizer: every 8 to 12 weeks in spring and summer, using diluted liquid houseplant fertilizer.
- Cleaning: gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to preserve the dark sheen of the foliage.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its dark, marbled foliage works as a strong visual anchor — it brings out the light-colored plants placed beside it and adds depth to any plant arrangement.
- For maximum contrast: pair it with the bright silver Sansevieria Moonshine — two Sansevierias, two contrasting colors, the same growth habit, the same care, an instantly graphic duo.
- In a trio arrangement: add a trailing golden Epipremnum — the Pothos's bright yellow-green, the Black Coral's dark marbled green and the Moonshine's silver create a highly effective color progression.
- Decorative pot: matte white or light gray ceramic brings out the dark foliage through contrast — avoid dark tones that blend the foliage into the pot.
Verdeia tips
- Water even less than you think: in the low-light conditions where it is often placed, the soil takes much longer to dry — always wait until the top 5 centimeters are completely dry before watering.
- Make the most of its contrast: always place it next to plants with light or variegated foliage — its dark foliage only reaches its full potential through color contrast.
- Rotate the pot regularly: monthly rotation ensures symmetrical growth — otherwise, the leaves gradually lean toward the light source, even when the light is low.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
