Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the edges of my Maranta's leaves turning brown? Brown edges are usually caused by lime in tap water or air that is too dry — switch to filtered or rainwater and increase humidity by misting regularly.
Why don’t my Maranta’s leaves fold up at night anymore? Lack of light, insufficient watering, or heat stress can slow this nyctinastic movement — check the exposure and watering; the plant will resume its movement as soon as conditions improve.

🐾 Non-toxic • 🌿 Lemon green variegated foliage with red veins • ☀️ Low light / Partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H30 cm | Pot Ø12 cm — H40 cm | Pot Ø15 cm
The Maranta Leuconeura 'Fascinator Lemon Lime', also known as the Prayer Plant, is a bright variety native to the tropical forests of Brazil — its lemon green and dark green variegated foliage adorned with striking red veins stands out from other Marantas with its light and refreshing tones. Like all Marantas, its leaves fold vertically at night and unfold during the day — a fascinating daily living movement. Discover our easy plants collection.
Our dedicated article on the Maranta explains everything about this daily movement and the care specifics of this fascinating botanical family.
Exposure & Location
The Maranta Leuconeura 'Fascinator Lemon Lime' perfectly tolerates low light — it is one of the few plants with colorful graphic foliage able to thrive in dim spaces. Direct sunlight burns its leaves and dulls its colors.
- Exposure: partial shade to indirect light — tolerates low light, avoid direct sun.
- Ideal for: office, shelf, dimly lit hallway, bedroom, bathroom.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, without sudden changes.
- Substrate: light, rich, and well-drained — universal potting soil with perlite.
Watering & Care
- Watering: moderate — keep the substrate slightly moist without ever letting it become soggy. Prefer filtered or rainwater to avoid brown edges on the leaves. Our guide to plants for dark rooms explains how to optimize care in low-light spaces.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring and summer, reduce slightly in winter.
- Humidity: prefers 60 to 70% humidity — mist regularly or group plants together.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
- Cleaning: gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth to preserve the lemon variegation and red veins.
Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations
Its lemon tones bring a bright and refreshing touch to a composition of dark green foliage — it is a naturally colorful accent plant that doesn’t need flowers to create a strong visual impact.
- Within the Marantaceae family: pair it with a Calathea Medallion and a Ctenanthe setosa — three Marantaceae, three different pattern and color expressions, same watering logic, coherent collection.
- In a low-light room composition: pair it with a Maranta Leuconeura 'Fascinator' with red veins on a dark green background and a Pilea Mojito with silver patterns — three plants tolerant of low light, three palettes of light and contrasting colors.
- Decorative pot: a matte white, light gray, or terracotta ceramic highlights the lemon variegation without competing with it.
Verdeia Tips
- Observe the leaf movement: they fold vertically at night like praying hands and unfold at dawn — this nyctinastic movement is a sign of good health, it slows down if the plant lacks light or water.
- Prefer non-calcareous water: brown edges on leaves are often caused by tap water lime — use filtered or rainwater to preserve the integrity of the variegation and red veins.
- High humidity recommended: a bright bathroom or regular misting replicates the humid tropical understory conditions the Maranta originates from — its leaves stay more flexible and the variegation more vivid.
