First, check that the saucer still contains water, then assess if the plant is getting enough bright light. Yellowed stems can be cut at the base — they will quickly be replaced by new shoots.

Cyperus alternifolius 'Zumula', also known as Papyrus or Umbrella Plant, is a graphic and elegant semi-aquatic plant native to the wetlands and marshes of tropical Africa and Madagascar. Its fine, upright stems topped with soft green leaf umbels resemble umbrellas or botanical fireworks — a unique airy and sculptural form that adds lightness and verticality to any space.

Watering & Care
Cyperus is the perfect plant for those who tend to overwater — here, it’s actually recommended. Contrary to the usual rule, keep water permanently in the saucer: the plant will take what it needs. Forget the finger test — this plant must never dry out.
- Watering: very regular — keep the substrate constantly moist, even soggy.
- Method: always leave water in the saucer — Cyperus is not afraid of having its roots submerged.
- Humidity: prefers 60 to 80% humidity — mist regularly or place near a humidifier.
- Fertilizer: every 2 to 4 weeks in spring and summer with diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
- Pruning: cut dry or yellow stems at the base to encourage new growth.

- Fast growth and easy propagation — Cyperus regularly produces new stems. When repotting every 1 to 2 years in spring, easily divide clumps by separating roots to get several new plants.
- Stems turn brown from lack of water or humidity — if the umbels start to dry out, it’s the first sign the substrate lacked water. Also increase misting if the ambient air is dry, especially during winter heating.
