This Sageretia theezans bonsai, known as Chinese sweet plum, has a dense, ball-shaped crown above a short trunk with bark that flakes off in light-colored plates. Native to the subtropical regions of southern China, it joins the indoor bonsai in the catalogue.
Its distinctive feature is its foliage: very small, shiny, light green oval leaves, with bronze-tinted young shoots. This natural fineness of the leaf blade gives the ball-shaped crown a density that a Ficus cannot achieve in the same size, making the miniature-tree illusion far more convincing on a small scale.

Watering & care
The volume of substrate in a bonsai pot is tiny and dries out very quickly. This is the critical point for this plant: forgetting to water for two days in summer is enough to cause the foliage to fall, and any absence requires preparation.
- Watering: frequent — the substrate should remain slightly moist at all times, meaning every two to three days in summer and once a week in winter.
- Method: soak the pot in a small amount of water for ten minutes; this is more effective than surface watering for bonsai substrate.
