🌿 Small, round, fleshy light-green leaves • 🌱 Graceful trailing stems • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Very little watering • 📏 Ultra-compact size H15 cm • 🐾 Non-toxic
Peperomia 'Hope' is a compact epiphytic plant native to the tropical forests of Central and South America. Its small, round, fleshy light-green leaves grow along slender, trailing stems - a delicate, airy habit that creates a graceful cascading effect in a hanging planter or on a high shelf. Its succulent leaves store water, allowing it to tolerate missed waterings. H15 cm | Pot Ø12 cm.
Non-toxic and very easy to care for. Pair it with other Peperomias.
Which Peperomia variety should you choose?
The Peperomia genus offers a spectacular diversity of foliage:
- Peperomia Hope (this plant) - round, fleshy light-green leaves, trailing stems, H15 cm. The most delicate and graceful.
- Peperomia rotundifolia - miniature round leaves on very slender trailing stems. The most cascading.
- Peperomia Raindrop - large, glossy, water-drop-shaped leaves. The most graphic.
- Peperomia Rosso - dark-green textured leaves on top, burgundy underneath. The most textured.
- Peperomia Napoli Nights - almost-black dark leaves. The most mysterious.
- Peperomia Red Canyon - spectacular red leaves. The most colorful.
- Peperomia Burning Bush - red-and-green variegated leaves. The most flamboyant.
Light & location
- Ideal light: bright indirect light.
- Tolerates: light partial shade.
- Avoid: direct sun, which can burn the fleshy leaves.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C.
- Soil: light and very well-draining - cactus and succulent soil with perlite.
When hanging, its trailing stems gradually lengthen to create a delicate cascading effect. Its ideal location depends on the balance between light and humidity.
Watering & care
- Watering: low - let the soil dry out between waterings.
- Frequency: once every 1-2 weeks in spring and summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: pot with drainage holes and very well-draining soil - essential.
- Fertilizer: half-strength liquid fertilizer for green plants, once a month in spring and summer.
- Pruning: pinch the tips to encourage branching and a bushier habit.
It is better to underwater than overwater - the fleshy leaves store the water and the plant tolerates missed waterings very well. The finger test helps prevent overwatering.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Its ultra-compact size and graceful stems make it a highly versatile plant - effective on its own or as part of a composition.
- Hanging: in a macramé or white ceramic hanging pot, its stems trail in a delicate cascade for a highly sought-after bohemian effect.
- In a composition: pair it with a Pilea peperomioides or a Tradescantia for a composition of small plants with very different textures - equally easy to care for.
- At the office: its H15 cm size is ideal for a desk - decorative, non-toxic, and very undemanding.
Easy to propagate - cut a stem and plant it directly in slightly moist soil. You will have a new plant within a few weeks.
Verdeia tips
- Excess water is its only real risk - wait until the soil is dry before watering. The fleshy leaves store reserves, and the plant can easily tolerate 2-3 weeks without water.
- Pinch the tips - each pinched stem produces two new shoots and makes the plant denser. Without pinching, the plant produces long, thin stems. Repotting is part of seasonal care.
- 🐾 Non-toxic - Peperomia Hope is completely safe for cats and dogs. In a pet-friendly home, you can find more suitable ideas among these pet-friendly plants.
