💛 Bright yellow flowers • 🌿 Sturdy stems 35 to 45 cm • 🌤️ Flowers from March to April • 💐 Lovely cut flower • ☀️ Sun or light partial shade • ❄️ Very hardy • 🔁 Naturalizes and flowers again every year • 📏 Bulbs size 10/12
The Narcissus with yellow flowers, or yellow daffodil, is the classic narcissus of spring: in March and April, its bright yellow flowers, with petals and cup in the same color, open on sturdy stems 35 to 45 cm tall. These size 10/12 bulbs come from a European horticultural selection, chosen for generous flowering and easy growing.
Planted in beds, along borders, in window boxes or in a lawn, it returns every spring and naturalizes easily. Among our flower bulbs, it is the daffodil for large plantings: its generous packs let you cover a lawn in yellow, and its stems are easy to cut for the vase.
Which daffodil should you choose?
- Yellow daffodil (this plant) — bright yellow flowers, 35 to 45 cm, in March-April. For beds, lawns and large plantings.
- Daffodil 'February Gold' — golden-yellow flowers with a long trumpet and slightly swept-back petals, 25 to 30 cm, from February to April. For borders, pots and lawns.
- 'Carlton' daffodil — one large 10 cm yellow flower per stem, lightly fragrant, 40 to 45 cm, in March-April. For beds and bouquets.
- Daffodil 'Mount Hood' — large milky-white flowers with a long trumpet, 40 to 45 cm, in March-April. For beds, lawns and bouquets.
Planted together, 'February Gold' opens the season from February, then the yellow daffodil and 'Mount Hood' form a yellow and white bed in March and April.
How many bulbs should you choose?
Yellow daffodils make the biggest impact in large clumps: allow about 30 bulbs per square meter, or 8 to 10 bulbs in a pot 30 cm in diameter.
- 40 bulbs: about 1 m², or four large pots on a balcony or terrace.
- 70 bulbs: about 2 m², for a spring flower bed or around the base of a tree.
- 140 bulbs: about 4 to 5 m², for a yellow border along a path.
- 280 bulbs: about 9 m², to naturalize a lawn or woodland area.
- 560 bulbs: about 18 m², to cover a large lawn or orchard in yellow.
The bigger the pack, the lower the price per bulb: the 560-bulb pack works out at just over a third of the price per bulb of the 40-bulb pack.
Planting & location
Bulbs are planted from September to December, as long as the soil is not frozen, for flowering in March and April.
- Exposure: sun or light partial shade; flowers are more plentiful in full sun.
- Depth: 10 to 12 cm, tip pointing up.
- Spacing: 8 to 10 cm between bulbs in the ground; 4 to 5 cm in a pot.
- Soil type: ordinary and well-drained; its only enemy is standing water.
- Hardiness: down to -20 °C in the ground, no protection needed.
For a natural effect in a lawn, toss a handful of bulbs at random and plant them where they land.
Watering & care
In the ground, autumn and spring rain is enough. In a pot, use well-draining potting soil, as explained in our guide to growing media and potting soils, and never leave it waterlogged.
- Watering: light — when planting, then in a pot when the potting mix is dry on the surface, especially as the buds emerge.
- Fertilizer: unnecessary in the ground; in pots, use a bulb fertilizer as the leaves emerge.
- Spent flowers: cut them off once they have faded, so the bulb keeps its energy instead of producing seeds.
- After flowering: let the foliage turn yellow for six weeks before cutting it back: it feeds the bulb for next year.
In a lawn, wait until the leaves have turned yellow, around the end of May, before the first mowing.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Its bright yellow warms up the garden at the end of winter and also lights up large pots, as shown in our guide to plants for a sunny balcony.
- For a blue and yellow duo, plant the Armenian grape hyacinth at its feet — its vivid blue clusters, 15 to 20 cm tall, bloom at the same time, in March-April.
- For a yellow and white bed, plant the White Triumph tulip behind it — its pure white cup-shaped flowers, 40 to 50 cm tall, take over in April.
- For a balcony version, plant 8 to 10 bulbs in the green Elho Greenville Easy Balcony planter, Ø25 cm — its green echoes the foliage and makes the yellow flowers stand out.
In a pot, plant in layers: daffodils at 12 cm and grape hyacinths above at 7 cm, for a yellow and blue pot in spring.
Verdeia tips
- Cut them in bud for the vase: pick the stems when the buds begin to show color. They open in the vase and last a week, making a spring bouquet to give, as shown in our ideas for plants to give as gifts.
- Keep them on their own for a few hours before adding them to a mixed bouquet: the sap from freshly cut stems makes other flowers wilt. First place them alone in a vase, then combine them with tulips without recutting the stems.
- Divide the clumps every four or five years: when flowers become less abundant, dig up the clumps after the foliage turns yellow, separate the bulbs and replant them right away.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
