❤️ Red, blue and white flowers • 🌷 Six complementary species • 🌿 10 to 50 cm depending on species • 🌤️ Flowers from March to June • ⛅ Sun or light partial shade • ❄️ Hardy • 🔁 Naturalises and blooms again every year • 📏 Bulbs size 10/12
This spring bulb mix brings together six species in bold colours: red Triumph tulips, linifolia botanical tulips, white daffodils, Siberian squill, Armenian grape hyacinth and Naples garlic. Planted together in autumn, they bloom in successive waves from March to June, from small blue bells at ground level to large red cups 40 to 50 cm tall. It is a European horticultural selection, supplied as size 10/12 bulbs for the largest ones.
In beds, borders, pots or lawns, it creates a vivid, contrasting picture without you having to match the species yourself. Among our flower bulbs, it is the mix with the strongest contrast; for softer tones, discover the blue and white mix or the pink and white mix.
What is in this mix?
- Siberian squill — small, intense blue bells, 10 to 15 cm, in March-April. It opens the season and self-seeds.
- Armenian grape hyacinth — dense, bright blue spikes, 15 to 20 cm, in April. It forms a blue carpet in the foreground.
- White daffodil — pure white flowers, 35 to 45 cm, in March-April. It brightens the bed from early spring.
- Red Triumph tulip — large deep red cups, 40 to 50 cm, in April-May. It adds height and colour at the peak of flowering.
- Linifolia tulip (Tulipa linifolia) — small bright red stars with a dark heart, 10 to 15 cm, in April-May. It carries the red down to ground level.
- Naples garlic (Allium neapolitanum) — umbels of fragrant white star-shaped flowers, 30 to 40 cm, in May-June. It closes the season.
The red, blue and white trio catches the eye from afar: keep this mix for beds that can be seen from the house or the street.
How many bulbs should you choose?
Small and large bulbs share the space: allow about 50 bulbs per square metre, or 20 to 25 bulbs in a pot 40 cm in diameter.
- 125 bulbs: about 2.5 m², or five to six large pots on a balcony or terrace.
- 250 bulbs: about 5 m², for a spring bed or the foot of a hedge.
- 500 bulbs: about 10 m², for a long border or several beds.
- 1000 bulbs: about 20 m², to naturalise a lawn, a bank or a light woodland.
The larger the pack, the lower the price per bulb: the 1000 pack works out at about half the price per bulb of the 125 pack.
Planting & location
The bulbs are planted from September to December, as long as the ground is not frozen, for flowers from March to June.
- Exposure: sun or light partial shade; tulips and Naples garlic flower best in full sun.
- Depth: 5 to 8 cm for small bulbs (squills, grape hyacinths, linifolia tulips), 10 to 15 cm for large ones (daffodils, Triumph tulips, garlic), pointed end up.
- Spacing: 5 cm between small bulbs, 10 cm between large ones; in pots, they can almost touch.
- Soil type: ordinary and well drained; only standing water harms them.
- Hardiness: down to about -15 °C in the ground, like the species in our selection of cold-hardy plants; Naples garlic is the least hardy in the mix.
For a natural effect, pour all the bulbs into a bucket, mix them and plant them at random, simply setting the large ones deeper than the small ones.
Watering & care
In the ground, autumn and spring rain is enough. In pots, use a free-draining potting mix, as explained in our guide to substrates and potting soils, and never let it become waterlogged.
- Watering: low — at planting, then in pots when the surface of the mix is dry, especially when the buds appear.
- Fertilizer: unnecessary in the ground; in pots, use a bulb fertilizer as the leaves emerge.
- Spent flowers: cut them off once withered, so the bulbs keep their energy instead of forming seeds.
- After flowering: let the foliage yellow for six weeks before cutting it back: it feeds the bulbs for the following year.
Squills, grape hyacinths, daffodils and linifolia tulips naturalise year after year; add a few Triumph tulips every two or three years to keep the display dense.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Its bold colours wake up the garden as winter ends and give character to large pots, as our guide to plants for a sunny balcony shows.
- To strengthen the white, plant Daffodil 'Thalia' alongside — its fragrant white flowers, 30 to 35 cm tall, open in April, together with the red tulips.
- To extend flowering into June, plant Allium 'Purple Sensation' behind — its 8 to 10 cm purple globes, on stems 70 to 80 cm tall, take over in May-June.
- For a terrace version, plant 20 to 25 bulbs in layers in a 40 cm pot — large ones at the bottom, small ones on top, for a pot in flower all spring.
Along a path or a fence, the red and blue contrast stays legible from afar and guides the eye.
Verdeia tips
- Plant in generous handfuls: for a lavish effect, plant in groups of 10 to 20 bulbs rather than in regular rows.
- Mark the spot: insert a small stake or note the outline of the bed, so you do not damage the bulbs when digging in summer, once the foliage has gone.
- Pick for the vase: red tulips and white daffodils make lovely bouquets; leave the daffodils alone in water for a few hours before combining them with tulips, as their sap makes other flowers wilt.

What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
