Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Callisia repens 'Turtle' and 'Rosato'? The 'Turtle' has green and cream striped leaves in a turtle pattern, while the 'Rosato' has soft pink and light green leaves — both have a compact trailing habit, two opposite color palettes.
Why are the cream stripes on my Callisia 'Turtle' fading? Lack of light is the main cause — move it closer to a well-lit window without direct sun, and new shoots will regain their distinctive pattern.

🌿 Green and cream striped foliage in a turtle pattern • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🌱 Very easy • 🐾 Non-toxic
Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, Callisia repens 'Turtle' naturally grows as ground cover in the moist understory of the Commelinaceae family. Its small, fleshy, round leaves striped green and cream in a pattern reminiscent of a turtle shell form dense, graceful trailing stems especially suited for hanging baskets and shelves. Discover our full Callisia collection and our non-toxic indoor plants.
Which variety of Callisia repens to choose?
Three varieties of Callisia repens are available in our catalog, each with a distinct color palette:
- Callisia repens 'Turtle' (this plant) — green and cream striped leaves in a turtle pattern, compact trailing habit (H15 cm | Pot Ø10.5 cm). The most graphic and original version.
- Callisia repens 'Rosato' — powder pink and soft green leaves, graceful trailing habit (H16 cm | Pot Ø12 cm). The pastel pink version.
- Callisia repens — uniform green, small round leaves, trailing habit (H17 cm | Pot Ø12 cm). The classic green version.
Light & location
'Turtle' needs bright indirect light to maintain its contrasting cream stripes — in shade, the patterns fade and the leaves turn uniformly green. It is one of the best trailing plants to enhance an interior thanks to its unique graphic foliage.
- Light: bright indirect to bright partial shade — avoid direct sun which burns the leaves.
- Ideal: hanging near a window, bright shelf, windowsill, or desk.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, without sudden changes.
- Substrate: light and well-drained — universal potting soil mixed with perlite.
Watering & care
Its fleshy leaves store enough water to withstand a few days of neglect — it’s better to underwater slightly than risk stem rot by leaving the substrate soggy.
- Watering: moderate — let the top 2 to 3 cm of substrate dry out between waterings.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring-summer, every 2 weeks in winter.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage holes, empty excess water from the saucer after watering.
- Humidity: adapts to dry to medium humidity — tolerates dry air well.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring-summer, diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
- Pruning: pinch the tips to encourage branching and maintain a dense habit.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
- Plant shelf: pair it with a Callisia 'Rosato' and a green Callisia repens — three identical trailing habits, three different color palettes for a coherent, low-maintenance arrangement.
- With other trailing plants: a Tradescantia 'Brightness' with green and cream white stripes plays on similar foliage but on a larger scale — the size contrast creates interesting depth.
- Ideal pot: a matte pink Groovy pot or a white relief decorative pot matches the cream and green tones of the foliage.
Verdeia tips
- Pinch the tips regularly: 'Turtle' naturally stretches toward the light — pinching the tips every 3 to 4 weeks stimulates branching and keeps a bushy, dense habit.
- Propagate easily: a cut stem roots in 2 to 3 weeks in a glass of water — propagating plants by cuttings is especially simple with this species.
- Keep bright light to preserve patterns: in shade, the cream stripes gradually fade and the leaves lose their characteristic graphic look — move it closer to a window at the first signs of greening.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
