🎄 Living Christmas tree, roots and all • ❄️ Decorative snowy tips • 🧺 Delivered in a woven basket • 🌲 Hardy down to -30 °C • 📏 H65 cm | Pot Ø17 cm
Picea glauca 'Conica' Snowy in a basket arrives ready to display: its branches are dusted with a fine decorative snow and its nursery pot slips into a woven basket in natural tones. From the moment it arrives, the white of the snow and the warmth of the woven fibres make it look like a little chalet tree. Beneath this frost, it is our dwarf Alberta spruce, descended from a dwarf seedling discovered in 1904 in Canada (Alberta), with a dense, perfectly regular cone.
A few baubles and a string of lights are all it takes to decorate it. After the holidays, it goes back outside without its basket, like all our potted Christmas trees, and gradually regains its natural soft green.
Which version should you choose?
- Picea glauca 'Conica' Snowy in a basket (this plant) — cone dusted with decorative snow, in its woven basket, H65 cm | Pot Ø17 cm. The choice for a winter tree ready to give, with a chalet style.
- Picea glauca 'Conica' Snowy in a zinc pot — the same snowy tree in a zinc decorative pot. The choice for a modern style, and a pot that stays outdoors after the holidays.
- Picea glauca 'Conica' in a basket — the same woven basket, with a tree in its natural soft green. The choice for a Christmas with no added snow.
- Picea glauca 'Conica' Snowy — the same snowy tree in a plain pot, in Ø17 or Ø19 cm. The choice for dressing it in your own decorative pot.
Light & placement
Like all spruces, it lives outdoors all year round and only spends a short stay indoors for Christmas. Cool air keeps its decorative snow in place; the basket, however, is made for indoors: outside, the woven fibres do not stand up to rain for long.
- During the holidays: 10 to 15 days indoors, in a cool, bright room, away from radiators and any heat source.
- The rest of the year: outdoors, in sun or partial shade, on a balcony, a terrace or in the garden, without its basket.
- Hardiness: down to -30 °C.
- Avoid: the dry heat of a heated living room for more than two weeks, and leaving the basket out in the rain.
Once outdoors, the rain washes away the decorative snow within a few weeks: your tree then regains its soft green foliage, ready to put on new growth in spring.
Watering & care
Water the root ball, never the foliage: water on the branches would spoil the decorative snow. The finger test tells you when the soil needs water.
- Indoors: check the root ball every 2 to 3 days; pour the water at the base, then lift the pot out of the basket for a few minutes to let excess water drain away.
- Under the basket: a saucer slipped under the pot protects the fibres and your furniture from moisture.
- Misting: best avoided during the holidays, to preserve the snow.
- Outdoors in a pot: water as soon as the top few centimetres of soil are dry, more often in summer.
- Fertiliser: a conifer fertiliser in spring.
Decorating ideas & plant combinations
Snow and a woven basket call for a chalet Christmas: white or light wood baubles, small straw stars, pine cones, linen or natural wool ribbon.
- For an all-white Christmas, place a Helleborus niger 'Christmas Carol' beside it — the white flowers of the Christmas rose extend the snow effect at the foot of the tree, then spend the winter outdoors with it.
- For a touch of soft colour, add a Skimmia japonica 'Finchy': its glossy green leaves and pinkish-white buds warm up the golden tones of the basket without breaking the wintry mood.
- For a different look another winter, a Ø20 cm braided jute decorative pot keeps the same natural-fibre spirit, in a lighter shade that echoes the snowy tips.
- As a winter gift, it is a tree ready to set out, with nothing else to buy, that lives on after the holidays — one of the easiest plant gifts to give in December.
Verdeia tips
- Carry it by the basket: the decorative snow rubs off with friction — unpack and move it holding it from the bottom, touching the foliage as little as possible.
- Decorate lightly: choose light ornaments placed on the branch tips and LED lights that give off little heat, so the snow does not fall off.
- Take it outside without its basket after the holidays: a few days in a sheltered, unheated place, then outdoors, like other cold-hardy plants; store the basket somewhere dry for next Christmas.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
