🎄 Living Christmas tree, roots and all • 🪣 Delivered in a zinc pot • ❄️ Hardy down to -30 °C • 🐾 Non-toxic • 📏 H65 cm | Pot Ø17 cm
Picea glauca 'Conica' in a zinc pot arrives ready to display: its nursery pot slips into a zinc decorative pot with a raw metal finish, which suits classic Christmas décor just as well as a modern interior. Inside the zinc, it is our dwarf Alberta spruce, descended from a dwarf seedling discovered in 1904 in Canada (Alberta), with a dense, regular cone covered in fine, soft green needles.
It is the ideal format for giving a living tree as a gift or for decorating a table, a console or a windowsill in one easy step. After the holidays, it goes back outside in its decorative pot, like all our potted Christmas trees.
Which version should you choose?
- Picea glauca 'Conica' in a zinc pot (this plant) — soft green cone in its zinc decorative pot, H65 cm | Pot Ø17 cm. The choice for a small, modern-style tree that stays in its pot outdoors after the holidays.
- Picea glauca 'Conica' — the same tree in a plain pot, from H45 cm to H110 cm. The choice for dressing it yourself or for a large size.
- Picea glauca 'Conica' Snowy — the same cone dusted with decorative snow, H65 cm. The choice for a white winter atmosphere.
Light & placement
Like all spruces, it lives outdoors all year round and only spends a short stay indoors for Christmas. Zinc withstands rain and frost: the tree can go back outside without changing pots.
- During the holidays: 10 to 15 days indoors, in a cool, bright room, away from radiators and any heat source.
- The rest of the year: outdoors, in sun or partial shade, on a balcony, a terrace or in the garden, in its zinc decorative pot.
- Hardiness: down to -30 °C.
- Avoid: the dry heat of a heated living room for more than two weeks.
In summer, opt for partial shade: in full sun, zinc heats up quickly and the roots suffer.
Watering & care
The zinc decorative pot holds excess water out of sight. Roots left standing in water suffocate, as our article on overwatered plants explains.
- Indoors: check the root ball every 2 to 3 days; water gently, then after a few minutes empty any water left at the bottom of the decorative pot.
- On furniture: a felt pad or a saucer under the zinc keeps the wood from getting scratched.
- Outdoors in a pot: water as soon as the top few centimetres of soil are dry, more often in summer.
- Fertiliser: a conifer fertiliser in spring.
- Repotting: every 2 to 3 years in spring, into a slightly larger pot.
Decorating ideas & plant combinations
Zinc calls for understated, luminous decorations: small LED string lights, white or silver baubles, velvet ribbon.
- For a rustic Christmas arrangement, pair it with a Helleborus orientalis 'Double Ellen Pink' — its pale pink double flowers soften the grey of the zinc and the green of the tree, and both then spend the winter outdoors.
- At the foot of the tree, a pot of Skimmia japonica Festival adds the red and white touch of Christmas, on the same scale as the presents.
- On a windowsill, its Ø17 cm pot fits easily and makes the most of the light — find pairing ideas in our guide to windowsill plants.
- For a different look another winter, a Ø20 cm Mayk Lead decorative pot keeps the metal spirit in a darker brushed anthracite black that brings out the soft green of the needles.
Verdeia tips
- Unpack it as soon as it arrives: remove the transport packaging and place the tree somewhere cool and bright before decorating it, as with any new plant you welcome home.
- Tie a ribbon around the pot: a simple red velvet bow on the zinc is all it takes to give it as a gift — no need for gift wrap.
- Empty the decorative pot after heavy rain: outdoors, water standing at the bottom of the zinc suffocates the roots; a quick check after a downpour is enough.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
