🎄 Living Christmas tree, roots and all • 🧺 Delivered in a woven basket • ❄️ Hardy down to -30 °C • 🐾 Non-toxic • 📏 H65 cm | Pot Ø17 cm
Picea glauca 'Conica' in a basket arrives ready to display: its nursery pot slips into a woven basket in natural tones, for a warm, rustic look with no decorative pot to buy. Inside the basket, it is our dwarf Alberta spruce, descended from a dwarf seedling discovered in 1904 in Canada (Alberta), with a dense, regular cone covered in fine, soft green needles.
It is the ideal format for giving a living tree as a gift or for decorating a table, a console or a windowsill in one easy step. After the holidays, it goes back outside like all our potted Christmas trees.
Which version should you choose?
- Picea glauca 'Conica' in a basket (this plant) — soft green cone in its woven basket, H65 cm | Pot Ø17 cm. The choice for a small, natural-style tree ready to give.
- Picea glauca 'Conica' in a zinc pot — the same tree in a zinc decorative pot, H65 cm | Pot Ø17 cm. The choice for a modern style, and a pot that stays outdoors after the holidays.
- Picea glauca 'Conica' — the same tree in a plain pot, from H45 cm to H110 cm. The choice for dressing it yourself or for a large size.
- Picea glauca 'Conica' Snowy — the same cone dusted with decorative snow, H65 cm. The choice for a white winter atmosphere.
Light & placement
Like all spruces, it lives outdoors all year round and only spends a short stay indoors for Christmas. The basket, however, is made for indoors: outside, the woven fibres do not stand up to rain for long.
- During the holidays: 10 to 15 days indoors, in a cool, bright room, away from radiators and any heat source.
- The rest of the year: outdoors, in sun or partial shade, on a balcony, a terrace or in the garden, without its basket.
- Hardiness: down to -30 °C.
- Avoid: the dry heat of a heated living room for more than two weeks, and leaving the basket out in the rain.
When you move it outside, remove the basket and keep it dry: it can dress your tree again next winter, or hold another houseplant.
Watering & care
The basket hides the pot: excess water can collect at the bottom without you noticing. Roots left standing in water suffocate, as our article on overwatered plants explains.
- Indoors: check the root ball every 2 to 3 days; water gently, then lift the pot out of the basket for a few minutes to let excess water drain away.
- Under the basket: a saucer slipped under the pot protects the fibres and your furniture from moisture.
- Outdoors in a pot: water as soon as the top few centimetres of soil are dry, more often in summer.
- Fertiliser: a conifer fertiliser in spring.
- Repotting: every 2 to 3 years in spring, into a slightly larger pot.
Decorating ideas & plant combinations
The woven basket calls for natural decorations: dried orange slices, small wooden stars, pine cones, linen or raffia ribbon.
- For a rustic Christmas arrangement, pair it with a Helleborus orientalis 'Double Ellen Pink' — its pale pink double flowers soften the green of the tree and the golden tones of the basket, and both then spend the winter outdoors.
- At the foot of the tree, a pot of Skimmia japonica Festival adds the red and white touch of Christmas, on the same scale as the presents.
- On a windowsill, its Ø17 cm pot fits easily and makes the most of the light — find pairing ideas in our guide to windowsill plants.
- For a different look another winter, a Ø20 cm braided jute decorative pot keeps the same natural-fibre spirit, in a lighter shade that brings out the soft green of the needles.
Verdeia tips
- Unpack it as soon as it arrives: remove the transport packaging, keep the basket and place the tree somewhere cool and bright before decorating it, as with any new plant you welcome home.
- Tie a ribbon to the handle or rim of the basket: to give it as a gift, just add a card — no need for gift wrap.
- Take it outside without its basket after the holidays: outdoors, wet fibres hold moisture against the pot; better to store the basket somewhere dry for next Christmas.

Our Verdeia commitments
FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
