🔥 Flamed tulip mix • 🎨 Yellow, orange, white, red and purple • 🌿 Sturdy 35 to 50 cm stems • 🌤️ Flowers from April to May • 💐 Superb in bouquets • ☀️ Full sun • ❄️ Very hardy • 📏 Bulbs size 11/12
The 'Flaming Beauty' tulip brings together tulips with flamed petals, each flower streaked with a second colour: yellow flamed with red, white flamed with purple or red, orange veined with deep purple. From April to May, they open on straight stems about 35 to 50 cm tall. It is a horticultural selection from Europe (the Netherlands), made up of large-flowered garden tulips.
In beds, large pots or bouquets, these flames of colour make the flowers look hand-painted. Among our flower bulbs, it is the most colourful tulip mix, the one for cheerful beds and unusual bouquets.
Which tulip should you choose?
- 'Flaming Beauty' tulip (this plant) — mix of flamed flowers in yellow, orange, white, red and purple, 35 to 50 cm, April to May. For a very colourful bed and unusual bouquets.
- 'Dutch Design' tulip — mix of red, white and flamed flowers, 40 to 50 cm, April to May. For a two-colour contrasting bed.
- Darwin tulip mix — large plain flowers in red, yellow, pink and orange, 50 to 60 cm, in April-May. For a colourful bed in bold shades.
Slip a few plain Darwin tulips into the middle of the mix: their bold colours bring out the pattern of the flames.
How many bulbs should you choose?
Tulips make the most impact planted in tight groups: allow about 40 bulbs per square metre, or 10 to 12 bulbs in a 30 cm diameter pot.
- 15 bulbs: one large pot on a balcony or terrace, or a group of about 0.4 m² in a bed.
- 30 bulbs: about 0.75 m², or two to three large pots.
- 60 bulbs: about 1.5 m², for a multicoloured bed or a border along a path.
- 120 bulbs: about 3 m², for a large border or a cutting patch of tulips.
The bigger the pack, the lower the price per bulb: the 120-bulb pack works out at less than half the price per bulb of the 15-bulb pack.
Planting & location
Tulips are planted from October to December, once the soil has cooled, for flowers from April to May.
- Position: full sun; in sunshine, the flowers open wide and the pattern of the flames stands out better.
- Depth: 15 cm, pointed end up.
- Spacing: 10 cm between bulbs in the ground, 3 to 5 cm in pots.
- Soil: well drained; add sand to heavy soil, as the bulb rots in waterlogged ground.
- Hardiness: down to -25 °C in the ground, no protection needed.
Plant the bulbs at random rather than by colour: the mix looks more natural and each flamed flower stands out better.
Watering & care
In the ground, rain is enough. In pots, check the moisture with the finger test and water only when the compost is dry 2 cm down.
- Watering: low — at planting, then in pots when the compost is dry on the surface, especially while the buds are forming.
- Fertilizer: unnecessary in the ground; in pots, use a bulb fertilizer as the leaves emerge.
- Faded flowers: cut the flower off just below the head as soon as it drops its petals, leaving the stem and leaves.
- After flowering: let the foliage turn yellow where it is for six weeks; it rebuilds the bulb’s reserves.
In a pot, give it a quarter turn every week in spring: the stems stay straight instead of leaning towards the light.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Their bright colours light up a bed or a sunny balcony, as our guide to plants for a sunny balcony shows.
- For a touch of blue, plant Armenian grape hyacinth at their feet — its bright blue 15 to 20 cm spikes flower in March-April and make the yellow and orange of the tulips stand out.
- To extend the show into June, plant Allium 'Purple Sensation' behind them — its purple balls, 8 to 10 cm across on 70 to 80 cm stems, open in May-June and echo the purple flames of the mix.
- For a balcony version, plant 10 to 12 bulbs in a 30 cm pot, with muscari above them, following our method for planting bulbs in pots in autumn — a pot in flower from March to May on a sunny balcony or terrace.
In a vase, combine the different colours of the mix: a few flamed stems are enough for a very cheerful bouquet.
Verdeia tips
- Wait for the soil to cool: ideally plant from late October. In soil that is still warm, tulip bulbs are more prone to disease.
- Cut them in bud for the vase: pick them in the morning, when the bud is coloured but still closed; they then last a week in a vase and make a festive bouquet among plants to give as gifts.
- Add a few bulbs every autumn: tulips flower again, but the blooms get smaller over the years. A few fresh bulbs each year keep a border well filled.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
