🌈 A mix of reds, pinks, yellows and purples • 🌿 Sturdy 40–50 cm stems • 🌤️ Flowers in April • 💐 Beautiful in bouquets • ☀️ Full sun • ❄️ Fully hardy • 📏 Bulb size 11/12
The Triumph tulip mix brings together red, pink, yellow and purple tulips in a single batch, all opening in April as large cup-shaped flowers on straight 40–50 cm stems. It is a horticultural selection from Europe (the Netherlands), from the Triumph group of tulips, known for their strong stems and long vase life.
All the colors flower at the same height and at the same time: the bed is already put together, you only need to plant it. Among our flower bulbs, it is the tulip for multicolored borders, cottage gardens and vibrant spring bouquets.
Which tulip should you choose?
- Triumph tulip mix (this plant) — reds, pinks, yellows and purples mixed together, 40–50 cm, in April. For a multicolored border without having to match the bulbs.
- Red Triumph tulip — bright red, 40–50 cm, in April. For a single-color border, or to strengthen the red in the mix.
- Purple Triumph tulip — deep purple, 40–50 cm, in April. To add depth to the mix at the same height.
- Mixed Darwin hybrid tulips — another multicolored mix, with larger flowers on taller stems. For an even more spectacular border.
A mix is not planted color by color: tip the bulbs into a bucket and plant them at random for a more natural look.
How many bulbs do you need?
Tulips look best planted in tight groups: allow about 40 bulbs per square meter, or 10 to 12 bulbs in a pot 25 to 30 cm across.
- 15 bulbs: one large multicolored pot on a patio.
- 30 bulbs: about 0.75 m², or two to three large pots.
- 60 bulbs: about 1.5 m², for a colorful edging along a path.
- 120 bulbs: about 3 m², for a large multicolored border or tulips to cut all through April.
The bigger the pack, the lower the price per bulb: the 120-bulb pack works out at less than half the price per bulb of the 15-bulb pack.
Planting & position
Plant tulips from October to December, once the soil has cooled, for flowers in April.
- Position: full sun; in partial shade the stems stretch and lean towards the light.
- Depth: 15 cm, pointed end up.
- Spacing: 10 cm between bulbs in the ground, 3 to 5 cm in pots.
- Soil: well drained; add sand to heavy soil, as the bulb rots in waterlogged ground.
- Hardiness: down to -25 °C in the ground, no protection needed.
The tighter the group, the richer the mix of colors looks: one large block works better than a long, sparse line.
Watering & care
In the ground, rain is enough. In pots, a free-draining mix, like those in our guide to composts and growing media, keeps the bulbs from rotting.
- Watering: low — at planting, then in pots when the potting mix is dry on the surface, especially while the buds are forming.
- Feeding: not needed in the ground; in pots, a bulb fertilizer as the leaves appear.
- Faded flowers: cut the flower off just below the head as soon as it drops its petals, leaving the stem and leaves.
- After flowering: let the foliage turn yellow where it is for six weeks; it rebuilds the bulb’s reserves.
Bulbs tire faster in pots: plant them out in the garden after flowering and put fresh bulbs in the pot in autumn.
Styling ideas & plant pairings
This mix of bright colors looks its best in full sun, on a south-facing patio or balcony, like those in our guide to plants for full-sun balconies.
- For a blue carpet beneath the tulips, underplant with broad-leaved grape hyacinth — its two-tone spikes of midnight blue and light blue tie all the colors of the mix together without competing with them.
- For a brighter bed, pair it with Narcissus 'Thalia' — its fragrant white flowers, also out in April, calm the whole scheme and add a touch of scent.
- For a colorful patio pot, plant 10 to 12 bulbs in an Elho Greenville Round pot in foliage green Ø25 cm — its understated green leaves the stage to the colors of the flowers, and it can stay outdoors all winter.
In a vase, a bouquet of tulips in every color mixed together is one of the cheeriest of spring: cut them at the same stage so that they open together.
Verdeia tips
- Wait for the soil to cool: ideally plant from late October. In soil that is still warm, tulip bulbs are more prone to disease.
- Cut them in bud for the vase: pick tulips in the morning, when the bud is colored but still closed. They last a week in a vase and make a multicolored bouquet that ranks among the most cheerful flowers to give as gifts.
- Add a few bulbs every autumn: tulips flower again, but the blooms get smaller over the years. A few fresh bulbs each year keep a border well filled.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
