🌷 Viridiflora tulip • 💗 Soft pink streaked with green • 🌿 Sturdy 45 to 50 cm stems • 🌤️ Flowers in May • 💐 Superb in bouquets • ☀️ Sun or light partial shade • ❄️ Very hardy • 📏 Bulbs size 11/12
The 'Strawberry Lemonade' tulip opens single soft pink flowers with pointed petals streaked with green. In May, later than most tulips, they stand on sturdy 45 to 50 cm stems. It is a European horticultural selection in the Viridiflora tulip group.
The green streaks echo the foliage and give the flower a graphic look, unlike plain tulips. Among our flower bulbs, it is an unusual, late-flowering tulip, as lovely in a bed as in a bouquet.
Which tulip should you choose?
- 'Strawberry Lemonade' tulip (this plant) — single soft pink flowers streaked with green, 45 to 50 cm, in May. For an unusual bed and graphic bouquets.
- Pink Triumph tulip — cup-shaped flowers in warm pink, 40 to 50 cm, in April. For an earlier pink bed in a single colour.
- 'Ballade' Tulip Mix — lily-shaped flowers with pointed petals in mixed colours, 50 to 55 cm, late April to May. For a slender, multicoloured bed.
- 'Gudoshnik Double' Tulip — full, peony-like flowers, from butter yellow to pink streaked with red, 45 to 50 cm, April to May. For rounder flowers in warm tones.
We also offer other two-tone tulips, fringed tulips and lily-flowered tulips: they are all presented in our tulip bulb collection.
Plant a few pink Triumph tulips alongside: they flower in April, and 'Strawberry Lemonade' takes over in May in the same range of pink.
How many bulbs should you choose?
Tulips make the most impact planted in tight groups: allow about 40 bulbs per square metre, or 10 to 12 bulbs in a 30 cm diameter pot.
- 12 bulbs: one large pot on a balcony or terrace, or a group of about 0.3 m² in a bed.
- 24 bulbs: about 0.6 m², or two large pots.
- 48 bulbs: about 1.2 m², for a flowering edge along a path.
- 96 bulbs: about 2.4 m², for a real spring bed or a cutting patch of tulips.
The bigger the pack, the lower the price per bulb: the 96-bulb pack works out at less than half the price per bulb of the 12-bulb pack.
Planting & location
Plant tulips from October to December, once the soil has cooled, for flowers in May.
- Position: sun or light partial shade.
- Depth: 15 cm, pointed end up.
- Spacing: 10 cm between bulbs in the ground, 3 to 5 cm in pots.
- Soil: well drained; add sand to heavy soil, as the bulb rots in waterlogged ground.
- Hardiness: down to -20 °C in the ground, no protection needed.
Sheltered from the prevailing wind, their stems stay straight until the end of flowering.
Watering & care
In the ground, rain is enough. In pots, check the moisture with the finger test and water only when the compost is dry 2 cm down.
- Watering: low — at planting, then in pots when the compost is dry on the surface, especially while the buds are forming.
- Fertilizer: unnecessary in the ground; in pots, use a bulb fertilizer as the leaves emerge.
- Faded flowers: cut the flower off just below the head as soon as it drops its petals, leaving the stem and leaves.
- After flowering: let the foliage turn yellow where it is for six weeks; it rebuilds the bulb’s reserves.
In a pot, give it a quarter turn every week in spring: the stems stay straight instead of leaning towards the light.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Their soft pink streaked with green softens a bed as well as a sunny balcony, and goes well with plants for a sunny balcony.
- For a blue contrast at their feet, plant the Armenian grape hyacinth — its vivid blue spikes make the pink of the tulips stand out.
- For a light, fragrant border, pair them with Narcissus 'Thalia' — its white flowers brighten the border in April, ahead of the tulips.
- To extend the show into June, plant Allium 'Purple Sensation' behind them — its purple globes take over as the tulips fade, and go well with the pink.
- For a patio version, plant 10 to 12 bulbs in the white Elho Greenville Round pot, Ø30 cm — the white of the pot sets off the pink and green of the flowers, and the drainage holes prevent standing water.
In a vase, pair them with a few plain white tulips: the bouquet stays bright and the green streaks stand out even more.
Verdeia tips
- Wait for the soil to cool: ideally plant from late October. In soil that is still warm, tulip bulbs are more prone to disease.
- Cut them in bud for the vase: pick them in the morning, when the bud is coloured but still closed; they then last a week in a vase and make an unusual, bright bouquet.
- Add a few bulbs every autumn: tulips flower again, but the blooms get smaller over the years. A few fresh bulbs each year keep a border well filled.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
