🏆 Award of Garden Merit variety (RHS) • 🎨 Soft pink, then rich pink, then green and purple • 📅 Flowering from July to October • ⛅ Partial shade • ❄️ Hardy down to -23 °C • 💐 Excellent cut flower
Hydrangea macrophylla Magical® Revolution Pink ('Hokomarevo') is one of the best-known varieties in the Magical® series: it received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. A horticultural selection from Europe (the Netherlands), it is one of the easiest hydrangeas for designing a balcony thanks to its compact habit and resistance to both sun and rain.
Its dense pompom flower heads open soft pink with a greenish-white center, deepen to rich pink in midsummer, then take on green and purple tones in autumn. Delivered at a height of 55 cm in a 23 cm pot with 6 to 10 flower heads, it is soft pink in July, rich pink in August, then turns purplish green in September-October, and its flower heads can then be preserved in a dried bouquet.
Which hydrangea should you choose?
The Hydrangea varieties in the catalog do not have the same flowering or the same uses:
- Magical® Revolution (this plant) — flowers that change color from July to October, a variety awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society. The most spectacular in late summer.
- Forever & Ever® — repeat-flowering: it blooms again on the current year's shoots, even after a harsh winter or incorrect pruning. The safest choice for flowering every year.
- Magical® Jewel — starts lime green and finishes purplish red. The most contrasting in the series.
- Magical® Greenfire — pink with green flames. The most tolerant of full sun.
- Magical® Noblesse — almond green, then pure white, then bright green. The best suited to shade.
- Magical® Ruby Tuesday — from green to intense red. The deepest red in the series.
- 'Strong Annabelle' — Hydrangea arborescens with large flower heads on sturdy stems, to be cut back hard every winter. The hardiest.
- Hydrangea petiolaris — the only climber, for dressing a wall in the shade.
Magical® Revolution is also available in a blue version: Revolution Blue.
Light & location
Revolution tolerates morning sun and withstands bad weather well, but its pom-poms retain their pink shades longest in partial shade before changing color.
- Exposure: partial shade, morning sun tolerated.
- Location: balcony, terrace, entrance, sheltered from strong winds.
- Hardiness in a pot: down to -23 °C — winter protection fleece during severe frost protects the buds.
- Soil type: moist, rich, neutral to slightly acidic — this is what preserves the pink color.
Its compact, dense growth also makes it suitable for planting in a small flowering hedge along a terrace.
Watering & care
Like all hydrangeas, it uses a lot of water in summer: an absence of a few days requires preparation, but the opposite extreme should also be avoided, as a pot without drainage causes suffocated roots.
- Watering: generous and regular — every two to three days in summer, much less in winter.
- Water: tap water is suitable for maintaining the pink color.
- Fertilizer: fertilizer for flowering plants, from March to July — avoid fertilizers for blue hydrangeas.
- Pruning: remove the faded flowers in March, just above the first pair of buds.
- Repotting: into a wider pot the following spring, using compost for flowering plants.
Keep the flowers until autumn: it is their change to green and purple that gives the Revolution its unique character.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its soft pink pom-poms pair beautifully with white flowers and delicate foliage, and provide a long flowering period on a partially shaded balcony.
- For a pink and white duo, pair it with Forever & Ever® White — same size, same needs, and the pure white brings out every shade of pink.
- To dress the base, plant a Carex 'Ice Dance' around the edge of the pot — its cream edging echoes the light center of the pom-poms.
- For winter interest, place an 'Eve Price' laurustinus next to it — evergreen, it flowers pale pink from November to March, in the same palette.
- To enhance the pot, choose the Capi Nature Groove taupe pot — a warm, neutral shade that complements the pink as well as autumn's purple tones.
Cut at the end of summer, the green and purple flower heads dry very well in a vase without water and remain decorative all winter.
Verdeia tips
- Cut a few for your home: Revolution is one of the best hydrangeas for cutting, and its flowers last a long time in a vase. A bouquet of hydrangeas is also a cherished gift, rich in the symbolizm of gift plants.
- Let the other flowers complete their cycle: on the plant, each flower head changes from pink to purple-green over a few weeks. Removing the flowers too early means losing what makes it distinctive.
- Protect it from severe cold: in a pot, winter fleece during prolonged frosts protects the buds that will flower the following summer.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
