🏆 Award of Garden Merit variety (RHS) • 🎨 Soft pink, then rich pink, then green and purple • 📅 Flowering from July to October • ⛅ Partial shade • ❄️ Hardy down to -23 °C • 💐 Excellent cut flower
Hydrangea macrophylla Magical® Revolution Pink ('Hokomarevo') is one of the best-known varieties in the Magical® series: it has received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. Horticultural selection from Europe (the Netherlands), it is one of the easiest hydrangeas for decorating a balcony thanks to its compact habit and resistance to both sun and rain.
Its dense flower heads open soft pink with a greenish-white center, deepen to rich pink in midsummer, then take on green and purple tones in autumn. Delivered at 55 cm tall in a 23 cm pot with 6 to 10 flower heads, it is soft pink in July, rich pink in August, then turns purple-green in September-October, and its flower heads can then be kept as dried flowers.
Which hydrangea should you choose?
The Hydrangea varieties in the catalog do not all have the same flowering or uses:
- Magical® Revolution (this plant) — flowers that change color from July to October, a variety awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society. The most spectacular in late summer.
- Forever & Ever® — repeat-flowering: it blooms again on the current year's shoots, even after a harsh winter or incorrect pruning. The safest choice for flowering every year.
- Magical® Jewel — starts lime green and ends purple-red. The most contrasting in the series.
- Magical® Greenfire — pink streaked with green. Most tolerant of full sun.
- Magical® Noblesse — almond green, then pure white, then bright green. Best suited to shade.
- Magical® Ruby Tuesday — from green to intense red. The deepest red in the series.
- 'Strong Annabelle' — Hydrangea arborescens with large flower heads on rigid stems, to be cut back hard every winter. The hardiest.
- Hydrangea petiolaris - the only climbing variety, for dressing a wall in the shade.
Magical® Revolution is also available in a blue version: Revolution Blue.
Exposure & location
Revolution tolerates morning sun and withstands bad weather well, but its pom-poms retain their pink shades longest in partial shade before changing color.
- Exposure: partial shade, morning sun tolerated.
- Location: balcony, terrace, entrance, sheltered from strong winds.
- Hardiness in a pot: down to -23 °C - a winter fleece during severe cold protects the buds.
- Soil type: moist, rich, neutral to slightly acidic - this is what preserves the pink color.
Its compact, dense growth also makes it suitable for creating a small flowering hedge along a terrace.
Watering & care
Like all hydrangeas, it uses a lot of water in summer: an absence of a few days requires preparation, but the opposite excess should also be avoided, as a pot without drainage causes suffocated roots.
- Watering: abundant and regular - every two to three days in summer, much less in winter.
- Water: tap water is suitable for keeping the pink color.
- Fertilizer: fertilizer for flowering plants, from March to July - avoid fertilizers for blue hydrangeas.
- Pruning: remove faded flowers in March, just above the first pair of buds.
- Repotting: into a wider pot the following spring, using compost for flowering plants.
Keep the flowers until autumn: their shift to green and purple is what makes Revolution so distinctive.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its soft pink pom-poms pair with white flowers and delicate foliage, bringing a long-lasting bloom to a partially shaded balcony.
- For a pink and white duo, pair it with Forever & Ever® Blanc - same size, same needs, and the pure white reveals every shade of pink.
- To dress the base, plant a Carex 'Ice Dance' at the edge of the pot - its cream edging echoes the pom-poms' pale center.
- For winter interest, place a Laurier-tin 'Eve Price' beside it — evergreen, it flowers pale pink from November to March, in the same palette.
- To enhance the pot, choose the Capi Nature Groove taupe pot — a warm, neutral shade that complements the pink as well as autumnal purple tones.
Cut in late summer, the green and purple flower heads dry very well in a vase without water and remain decorative all winter.
Verdeia tips
- Cut a few for your home: Revolution is one of the best hydrangeas for cutting, and its flowers last a long time in a vase. A hydrangea bouquet is also a popular gift: our selection of plants to give as gifts and their symbolism helps you choose.
- Let the other flowers complete their cycle: on the plant, each flower head changes from pink to purple-green over several weeks. Removing the flowers too early means losing what makes it distinctive.
- Protect it during severe cold: in a pot, a winter fleece during prolonged frosts protects the buds that will flower the following summer.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
